The time signatures at 5:00 are insane. The background vocals play a slow 5/4. The line "And the truth will now be told on manifold" is 8/8 counted with triplets. And the bass vocals are 6/8 at that same triplet tempo.
@michmyers734 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but I actually think that the bass and background vocals play in 6/8, just with each phrase lasting 5 bars. Also, I can't really spot triplets in lead vocals - however they are in 8/8, and instead of triplets I think it's just that it has patterns of an eight note followed by one sixteenth, making that "Truth-can Now-be" part feel a little off center.

I once read something in a review of the band To-Mera; something that has stuck with me ever since. It went something like this: "Sometimes it's not the music's job to appeal to or impress you. Sometimes it's you that has to broaden your horizons and learn to appreciate something that was previously out of your scope, like how when you're first learning to do new math you can't do it on your own but you can do it with the help of your teacher." I feel sorry for all the metalheads who can't enjoy Heritage or SC because it isn't metal enough. Musicians that can transcend musical genres and still be good are rare. It's too bad that that Opeth and co. are too big for you.

I feel sorry for people who can't identify a bad record just because it is produced by a genius. Heritage is an empty failure :(
@jaredarbizu637310 жыл бұрын
Heritage is by no means excellent, and is probably among their worst albums, but it is also nowhere close to being an empty failure. It still had its moments.
@javierbustos569710 жыл бұрын
Dan Goldsmith Heritage is by no means a failure. You want a bad record? Metallica has done a large amount of them, same as Megadeth. Compared to them, Opeth has yet to make a shit record. I feel sorry for you, coming here with that attitude as if you were such an expert on the subject (If not, I'm sorry but that is how I see you for the thing you commented) when the reality is that you probably dislike the record for having a totally different approach than the previous ones. In other words, I assume you dislike it for not being metal enough :/
@dangoldsmith890510 жыл бұрын
Don't assume. I posted why I don't like it. Heritage is empty. It has tons of empty space sonically. It is not complex and lush and beautifully arranged like almost all of Opeth's other records. Mikael and company lost their way. I sincerely hope they find what makes them brilliant once more before I die :)
@slapmetalbassftw10 жыл бұрын
Dan Goldsmith You mean what makes them brilliant to you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I happen to like Heritage and Pale Communion, and I like all their other stuff.
