Our neighbors wife was stuck down our road by trees and called her husband to come down and help her as she was trapped in her car. Just as he got a few feet from her a huge tree was uprooted, fell on him and crushed him. He passed and she will never be the same. This is Connecticut, USA where we are used to hurricanes but things like this are, thankfully, few and far between. My condolences to this family.

that's what you get for being incompetent and have total lack of awareness, i don't feel sorry. people need to GET OFF THEIR SCRUBBY PHONES and pay attention to what they are doing! i'd hear/see a tree fall from miles away, i'd never get hit by one, unless i'm sleeping, but i don't exactly sleep on the street. it's same thing with those brainturds who smash into other cars on STRAIGHT ROADS, cuz they're too busy scrubbing on phones or driving too fast in low visibility OR even worse, those who get hit by a train! .. in other words, it's called lack of common sense and total lack of awareness. they're getting what's coming to them, i'm glad that sometimes mother nature does its job in ridding the world of such people. if you get hit by a train or falling tree without noticing and without being able to dodge, then it means you have 0 awareness and you are danger not only to yourself, but everyone else around you! imagine such person driving a truck! how can you expect such incompetent to notice pedestrians, if he can't even notice a BIG TREE???

Whilst this is a fairly unique event, I do think we have downplayed this to an extent, and that as we have frequently a lot more storms now, the naming etc, I think many people no longer heed the warnings. I also think, and you are right in your description, these are hurricane force winds. But due to the technical development of these weather systems, they won't call it a hurricane, therefore storms like this one are categorised the same as any other, hence another reason people don't take the warnings as seriously.

The ones walking along the prom are just plain daft - reporter included - but, sadly, some of us have to travel and work in this, as emergency services, hospitals, care homes, prisons, infrastructure sites, etc, won't run themselves. And visiting carers for housebound people are absolutely vital. That said, my area got the emergency "stay at home" message so I was expecting the roads to be full of flying wheelie bins rather than driving cars on my commute to the hospital this morning. Instead, I got stuck behind someone doing 10-15mph, slamming on the brakes at **everything** - only to pull into McDonald's... I seriously questioned the ethics of whether treating him if a tree fell on him would be a crime against evolution...

You need to operate some discretion, though. Also, taking living things, much lighter than you are, into a purported hurricane might be seen as endangerment given that they usually don't ask to get blown away. Also, we shouldn't be giving ourselves special treatment when we seek to come face to face with nature and it bites us. It's nauseating how people are portrayed as heroic when they were merely a bit reckless. Doing something you were told not to do, and then coming off worse, isn't heroic.

@@Josh-gd7ew no, do you have e difficulties reading. I said storms producing 90mph+ winds are not normal. Storms with winds around 50-70 are more frequent but this type of storm and the damage it caused, no that's not normal. As I said to the other idiot, what is normal about trees being uprooted, roofs blown of buildings and 2 people being killed as trees hit their vehicle? That's what I'm saying isn't normal.

It’s Cathy Newman’s fault: she deliberately misquoted her interviewee over 35 times in a half hour interview by saying “So you’re saying [something provocative that the interviewee didn’t actually say].” That’s a bad mistake. An unforgivable error. A punishable offence. Cathy Newman: shame on your parents for raising you.

I am so done with people. 90mph winds, yet a couple think its appropriate to take their kid outside to 'see the waves' and an old woman walks her dogs because they have to go for a walk 'regardless of the weather'. Wisdom doesn't come with age.

"Young people dropping like flies over last 2 years with strokes and heart attacks, could it be climate change?" You mean heat stroke? Then, yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people in this supposedly temperate zone to die from heat stroke.

I can't believe the amount of idiots just going about their business like it's just a bit of a breezy rain shower. A red weather warning was issued and someone's popping out for milk and someone else is walking the dogs? Absurd. The government should be enforcing a proper stay at home mandate.
