Our neighbors wife was stuck down our road by trees and called her husband to come down and help her as she was trapped in her car. Just as he got a few feet from her a huge tree was uprooted, fell on him and crushed him. He passed and she will never be the same. This is Connecticut, USA where we are used to hurricanes but things like this are, thankfully, few and far between. My condolences to this family.

Whilst this is a fairly unique event, I do think we have downplayed this to an extent, and that as we have frequently a lot more storms now, the naming etc, I think many people no longer heed the warnings. I also think, and you are right in your description, these are hurricane force winds. But due to the technical development of these weather systems, they won't call it a hurricane, therefore storms like this one are categorised the same as any other, hence another reason people don't take the warnings as seriously.

The ones walking along the prom are just plain daft - reporter included - but, sadly, some of us have to travel and work in this, as emergency services, hospitals, care homes, prisons, infrastructure sites, etc, won't run themselves. And visiting carers for housebound people are absolutely vital. That said, my area got the emergency "stay at home" message so I was expecting the roads to be full of flying wheelie bins rather than driving cars on my commute to the hospital this morning. Instead, I got stuck behind someone doing 10-15mph, slamming on the brakes at **everything** - only to pull into McDonald's... I seriously questioned the ethics of whether treating him if a tree fell on him would be a crime against evolution...

Now it's largely overcast with the odd week of strong sun. Floods were non-existant in our neighbourhood and now they are common. Climate change exists. We can look at data and our memories. You need to operate some discretion, though. Also, taking living things, much lighter than you are, into a purported hurricane might be seen as endangerment given that they usually don't ask to get blown away. Also, we shouldn't be giving ourselves special treatment when we seek to come face to face with nature and it bites us. It's nauseating how people are portrayed as heroic when they were merely a bit reckless. Doing something you were told not to do, and then coming off worse, isn't heroic.

i drove past a place tonight in hampshire, england where 5 years prior i'd came upon a large tree across the road with a car i.e directly underneath it when this happened i'd ran to the front passenger side of the vehicle as fast as i could and as i got to the door to open it the driver(a girl who must have been very glad to see me an the only person in the vehicle)was getting out she was completely unharmed.....a miracle....

It's a climate thing. We'd be getting the more extreme weather, anyway, being over half way up the northern hemisphere. Australia might be more prone to high temperature issues at Christmas.

"Young people dropping like flies over last 2 years with strokes and heart attacks, could it be climate change?" You mean heat stroke? Then, yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people in this supposedly temperate zone to die from heat stroke.

It’s Cathy Newman’s fault: she deliberately misquoted her interviewee over 35 times in a half hour interview by saying “So you’re saying [something provocative that the interviewee didn’t actually say].” That’s a bad mistake. An unforgivable error. A punishable offence. Cathy Newman: shame on your parents for raising you.
