You missed the flood level plaque on the street by the theatre, it's been worse in 1998 since the gauge was installed as you pointed out but 1901 and 1932 have been considerably higher still, 1901 in-particular, much of the whole town was flooded.

What amazing drone footage that is. I appreciate you sharing! 🐼

Thank you for the amazing footage. I was talking to my dad about this flooding and he reminded me that years ago, farmers used to have ditches around their fields to combat flooding. He said that these days, the ditches have been filled in by greedy builders and so the water has nowhere to go. I can remember jumping over those ditches when I was a youngster. Also, the councils don't have the machines to clean grids out anymore, so they just leave grids without cleaning them like they used to years ago. Hence this flooding is happening. The government needs to start doing things to combat this flooding, its just heartbreaking to see... but thank you for your hard work DJE.... its amazing footage again! xx

@@ineos23 you are welcome... I'm probably older than you and can remember how things used to be. These things were put in place for a reason but greedy people have bought land and filled in those safety places. Thank you for your kind comment x

all the rivers are silted up they don't dredge them the result is floods.more concrete and houses built thats less soil for the water to soak into so river have to take it
@TheGrimReaper16 ай бұрын
Yes thats about it and all about it. Instead of the rain percolating slowly away it’s now all or nothing as it comes from the gutters and concrete or tarmac, plus farmland drainage being much more efficient and numerous now , that hasn’t helped the situation either.

I doubt very much if it is the worst flood ever. Probably caused by building on the flood plain.

I wonder if authorities started dredging more and invested in rebuilding the Victorian sewage and drains, we might see less flooding in these areas. I feel sorry for the families living in those areas. Water where it shouldn’t be, ruins homes. Now temperatures are dropping towards 0, I dread how people will cope here.

If the ea would actually dredge the rivers these days we wouldn’t have floods like we nowadays Theres a case where a farmer dredged the river and the ea took him to court and he got sent to jail for looking after the river that hasn’t flooded since he cleaned the river up baffles me how they can get away with this sort of behaviour

but why do the councils allow building on flood planes
@dr_dr6 ай бұрын
Because the government ignored the obvious issues and common sense and told them they could so that developers (a significant source of donations to the Tory party) can make more money. It really is that simple.
