i almost only play with the purple hammer on house shots.. works like a charm for me.. i let it a little laneshine so it gets more of a backend reaction closer to traditional reactive then the typical early urethane like reaction. And i like it. :D But my House Shot is also kind of on the heavier side so that maybe helps the ballreaction.

Thanks Tamer for this comparison review. It really shows what a harder ball actually does. Ron Hickland from CTD said that the IQ 78-U isn't true urethane like the Purple Hammer because it has plasticizers in it like a reactive ball. I know Storm is trying capitalize on the new rule but since it's not really urethane maybe a better comparison should be between the Hammer NU, Motiv Tank Yellowjacket and the IQ 78U since they are a truer test of urethane like balls. Thanks again Tamer great appreciated!

I honestly not sure the value of all of this urethane/non-urethane discussion. (not related to your ask, jus a broader comment) Urethane isn't great for league bowling in general because of the pattern shape. Dry and mud are side by side and then with urethane you push it downlane creating a transition nightmare. But I'm not going to say there is zero use case. NU doesn't roll anything like the others so even if the IQ Tour 78U has some plasticizer, it is urethane -like enough to behave and more importantly be treated by the PBA as urethane. That's the reason why they use 78D vs the NU which doesn't require 78D. Yellowjacket could be compared to the 78U because it's also urethane-like but with that said, I'm assuming YJ will also be banned on the PBA... With the way different manufacturers are tackling this for the PBA it's going to be interesting for THEM and confusing for US.

Very interesting comparison. Thank you Tamer. As a low rev, low speed Full Roller, what I find when I try to use stronger urethane on house is, the urethane ball is too strong to play outside in the friction and just rolls out and hits weak leaving pocket splits, but if I move closer to the oil then the same ball doesn't read the lane at all and goes too long also hitting light. If I try to square up then the ball will not hold the line and will go through the nose. So ultimately balls like the Purple and Pitch Black give me about 1 board of perfect play area on a house shot. Because of this the IQ-78 interests me because it could allow me to play directly in the friction, down and in from the outside, which for a Full Roller like me is the ideal path to the pocket. If the ball shines up that might make it even better for playing from the far outside direct to the pocket. Thoughts?

Honestly it’s extremely hard to say with confidence given how niche these balls appear. This thing is going to roll like old urethane balls. So if you have any of those old black hammers or sumos, etc., that’s how it’s going to behave. With fresh surface it’s going to be what you described pushing you away from the friction but it shines so fast that won’t be the predominant reaction after a couple of games.

Not a fan of throwing urethane on TPS. Honestly, wrong tool for the application. Thus, what would a comparison show on a short oil pattern that would be more applicable to use of urethane?
@TamerBowling6 ай бұрын
I agree but always start with house shot since the vast majority of bowlers only bowl on house shots. If I have an opportunity I try to test on sport shots as well where applicable. Doesn't even have to be short for urethane to be honest. I've used the purple Hammer pretty effectively on 41ft PBA pattern for example.

@TamerBowling I mentioned short mainly due to the fact I have no success on it and need to get my 1st urethane. I think I could of used it at nationals D/S where I did horribly. I can't decide on which urethane to get...

It’s annoying to watch urethane ball reviews on house shots when that’s not what they’re intended for.

I agree I’m not a fan of urethane on house in general but I test in house because the vast majority of bowlers bowl house shots. Testing on a sport shot and then having a bowler trying to interpret what they’ll see when they use it on house won’t translate.

Urethane works great for me on house shots, since reactive resin is too strong and always want to go Brooklyn. I have to stand by the left gutter using reactive on a fresh house shot.
