​@@Nerdsammich I started to get into the pirate metal genre until I realized it all boils down to Strong Mad shouting I WANT TO GO ON A BOOOAAAAAT! jugga jigga wugga. I think Patty's solo approach has a couple advantages, like she's not trying to growl so she actually makes it through "strong and brave and keen" and "some grow into rulers" in one piece. Also keeping it acoustic hurdygurdy + vocals...I think makes it more cohesive thematically. It's a folk song/shanty rather than "pirate metal," which again will forever remind me of Homestar Runner characters being silly. I'm not so sure about the hurdygurdy playing the role of lead guitar in front of a metal band. The acoustic intro that's then picked up by the metal band could work, but I think an electric guitar should take over for the melody just so that it isn't fighting to be heard over the rhythm guitar and drums. In moments where the song cools back down, return to acoustic instruments. I know, it's done the way it is because "We have a hurdygurdy player, not a lead guitarist." Both versions have the same awkward lyrics; "Heard a ship came from North to our harbor for the day...." I would have written that "Heard a ship from the north came to harbor for the day.'

Hi guys! I state that I love this song, but I would like to give you, in a friendly way, some technical advice. I love how the hurdy-gurdy fits in this song, but I find very "dry and cold" the sound of guitar and drums (in my opinion better suited to black/death metal), which contrasts a lot with a pirate mood. The bass drum is too triggered. The attack and the presence of the bass guitar slightly hushed. The guitar needs to "warm up" the sound. A compromise to have a more natural drums sound, a more consistent bass guitar and finally a guitar with more warm and dynamics responsive pickups (for example, S.D. Duality are great!) would really make your music a cannonball from a pirate ship! I hope that this tips can help you in the future. I send you all a hug, all the best!
