High winds blow snow and create slick roads in Stearns County MN - 1/5/2020

With winds gusting up to 49MPH and sustained winds near 30MPH the blowing and drifting snow over the roadways in rural Stearns County made for slippery driving conditions today.
The snow blew over the roadways that warmed up in the in the midday sun and then refroze as Glaze Ice and then had more ice and snow build up on top to create extremely dangerous driving conditions in the high winds.

I find it interesting that the salt truck’s spreader was just salting the middle of the road. The driver needed to turn the speed up on the spreader.

This is one of the only decent months your way I'm thinking...MUCH to HOT the rest of the year. I can see why older folks here that 'go south' in the winter...aka Snowbirds...go to such places, but I wouldn't want to stay past about late March/early April. We truly have 4 seasons here and I like watching the world come back to life after a long winter!! The buds come out on the trees, the early flowers start popping up then blooming and the ground turns from brown to green lil by lil. Spring is neat to watch things that were dormant return from their long sleep, hearing n seeing the birds return, wildlife showing up with their new babies and the sun show its face n shine more and warm the Earth along with spring rains that lets the farmers begin their field work. And our summers are BEAUTIFUL as well! Sure we get some hot days, but not near as hot as Texas or many of the Southern states. Just TO hot for my liking. LOL!! I'd rather be able to enjoy summer n the outdoors and be able to go camping n picnic, fishing, etc and not feel cooped up n live in air conditioning. Then when fall comes along n slowly everything gets ready for their long winters nap which brings the cold n snow. But it's the bitter cold that's getting harder to deal with the older I get n my hubby is VERY much over dealing with the snow. So we'd like to be able to join others in a warmer climate for a cpl mos some day, but for the MOST part I LOVE where I was born, raised n have lived my whole life and enjoy the 4 seasons here!! 🌷⛱🍁❄

berryteresa You are right! I love the spring since i grow many plants and have a small fruit orchard. I actually want it to get cold and snow (sometimes-and for my fruit trees) here. Am retired now and it is easy to bear the heat (AC of course),but the lack of rainfall really gets to me. I live in a pretty benign area here weatherwise and about the only things we get are flash-floods. I could’nt imagine myself strenuously digging snow out of a driveway,etc. Cheers-Spring will be here soon and longer days!
