It's wild to me that people were saying they focused too many resources on 1v1 instead of campaign, so I'm glad he addressed the obvious for those people. All you need for 1v1 is units and a map. No AI, no scripted events, no dialogue, no cinematics, etc. Of course 1v1 gets done first. I'm glad they pushed 3v3 and SFX up the priority list, though. 6 weeks between content drops sounds good if they intend on releasing 1.0 sometime next year, and the frequent balance updates have keep 1v1 pretty fresh so far.
@scottmaclellan56883 ай бұрын
It's not wild at all. Their early access launch data showed that most people were interested in the campaign, not 1v1. They, these former Blizzard employees, failed to understand that most RTS players don't want to go right into a 1v1 because it's too stressful or because they like an engaging story. You know what Brood War and War3 had that Stormgate and later SC2 expansions didn't? A good narrative. Nobody cares about Stormgate's story. The campaign is poorly designed and from what I hear, the map making tools are garbage. These former Blizzard employees should have understood that the single most important thing to get right for an RTS is a functional map editor. UMS kept Brood War going for a very long time. DotA and custom campaigns kept people coming back to War3. All these rebalanced and remade campaigns that Grant streams are done in Galaxy Edit. And you know what good map tools are instrumental for? 1v1. Game devs don't seem to know how to make good 1v1 maps. I remember early Wings of Liberty and Scrap Station and just wondering what Blizzard was thinking in having designed that map. They had 40 million dollars over 4 years and they went for the low hanging fruit? Is that what decades of RTS making experience looks like? There's no good sense to that and Frost Giant has failed to show the necessary ability to understand what RTS players want or what the game needs to survive.

@@scottmaclellan5688 Holy cow that was a lot of crap for such a short comment. People are interested in the campaign, FG knows that but campaign needs the most work. There is a livetalk from the SC2 Art team where they explained how the last 3 years of development was for story, optimization and polish. They also had the fundamental building blocks in place before they put full focus on the campaign. Stormgate did not release yet, they are early access. So if you expect a good story experience at this point, it's not Frostgiants fault you get dissappointed, it's your expectation and lack of understanding of game development. From what you heard the map making tools are garbage? Very cool and totally not ominous statement. They are not even out yet. Are we once again judge something that is still in development? SO much in development in fact, it's not even in the EA release? It is always so easy to be a keyboard warrior and cry out for things that are not there yet, without having the slightest clue on what it takes to develop those things. And exactly like you said, Map making tools are essential. BUT THAT'S WHY THEY ARE DEVELOPING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. like wtf is your point. They had about 38 Million dollars over 4 years. that is roughly 28% of SC2's budget adjusted for inflation. 3 years less development time than SC2. Also, they spent those 4 years on less resources than SC2. It doesn't matter how much experience you have. It takes time and money. People like you ruin this game with your unrealistic, groundless expectations and straight up hate. Give them constructive criticism. That's what they want, that's what they need. They are a small studio that showed they listem. They showed that they improve with every iteration. Stop expecting a fully finished game from an early access release. You are being a fool.

@@Gloromo They are charging $10 for not even close to a semi polished campaign CHAPTER. Just throwing that out there. Yes people have the right to be disappointed. And yes it is frostgiants fault that people are disappointed. Clearly they avoided for the longest showing anything on the campaign with reason. It doesn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together. 1+1=2. "it's your expectation and lack of understanding of game development." i know a youtube comment means shit, but I do QA for a game called Ethereal Clash of Souls on my free time, and then do Freelance for TenCent as my day job. Believe me I am FULLY aware about game dev cycles and I was STILL disappointed. "People like you ruin this game with your unrealistic, groundless expectations and straight up hate" So are you saying people are not entitled to share how they feel with a CURRENT state of a game? Are you really that daft? You think people can ruin a game with opinions? A game will ruin itself. I personally enjoy SG, but it is very clear that maybe they shouldn't charge $10 for a mode that is in a very early draft, and if they do decide to charge for the early drafts then they should do so on a discount. In terms of the other persons comments about the dev tools, I will not throw judgement on FG on that until it's in my hands. Even then I will judge what is in front of me. "IT's early access" isn't an excuse when I have seen MANY games shut down in early access. I can only judge what's in front of me. I don't have the power to see into the future.

But people straight up stopped investing completely the past few weeks, they got maybe 5-10 private investors banking a few K dollars, and with player numbers suggesting zero or few funds from sales, it's now either mass restructuring at FGS, workers working for free or for stocks for long enough to figure a new revenue stream, or simply straight up unplugging and GG'ing.

I feel that Stormgate needs to be out of EA, reassess the game and rework from the ground up its gameplay loop, graphics, artstyle. It has no identity, tries to be SC2 and WC3, yet it ended up becoming either. Rather than doing something new and fresh, they are just rehashing the steps from when they were in Blizzard. In their arrogance of declaring this being the next big RTS that will revitalize the genre, it ended up flopping with this botched EA. Rather than accept very needed feedback and make the very necessary changes to make this game fun and engaging and using all the power and adventage of the Unreal Engine 5, they are set in with this 'vision' of the game with not change on sight. If this continues, Frost Giant's first game will be their last.

Feedback: Give us auto generated maps, because of a bigger skillsceiling for scouting and as a result a bigger variety and replay value. Give us buildable walls and a resource structure that can produce a resource alone or combinded with a worker so interessting places for battles can emerge from anywhere on the map instead of just at predefined locations. This also contributes to variety and replay value. Both also make additional map types like Nomad possible, where you start with a few workers randomly distributed around the map. The resulting game situations are very different and present players with interesting challenges. Thanks for hearing my feedback and I will be happy to see that in some upcoming updates. No they advertise the game as "a new franchise, blizzard RTS style, a mix between SC2 and W3". And i'm insisting on the "franchise aspect" because you cannot expect Starcraft 3 from this compagny. Only Blizzard can do it and, unless Microsoft changes things up in Blizzard, there won't be a Stacraft 3, period. There's also another key aspect to that : ressources. Blizzard is a HUUUUUUUGEEE compagny. They got planty of ressources, including the very important "game and graphical engine". Most engine are not made for RTS, at all (but are mostly FPS/TPS oriented). People don't realize how big of a role it plays. So, it's not comparable to the scale of a Stacraft 2. Even thought FG had good investors and quite the amount of money for such a small compagny - which would be explained by the amount of experience these guyz represents, and probably a solid business plan and business model. Now people are gonna keep complaining because the gaming community overall (i'm talking about the "vocal part") is toxic. That's it. It's no big surprises here.
@Bagginsess3 ай бұрын
Have you heard of inflation? For sc2 $60 back in 2010 is now $86 and $100 million would be $144 million. For sc1 in 1999 $60 would now be $115 and $40 million would be $77 million. After doing basic math I have found that stormgate's $40 million is less than starcraft 2's $144 million, not to mention that activision-blizzard had far more than $144 million to spend if they so chose where as frost giant only have $40 million total.
