I remember what my driving instructor taught me 14 years ago when I was getting my license (and luckily I also had a few snow days when learning to drive): - when it's snowing and the road is shit... Drive as if your brakes don't even exist. That way, you won't need them. Translation: use engine braking and slowly accelerate and decelerate while keeping ample room for all needed maneuvers. Worked well... Never had an issue with losing control of the car.

. That little rock in your shoe. . Having a flake of something in your eye, which doesn't wanna go away. . Driving behind someone who's going EXACTLY the speed limit and unable to pass 'em. . Having to go to the washroom, but all the stalls are occupied. . No ice in the ice tray. . Finding out, you DID leave the car windows open, only hours after it's been raining or snowing.

I'm constantly amazed by how so many people think that it's a good idea to drive in misty, drizzly, overcast and snowy days without their headlights on. It doesn't hurt and only helps to make your car and the road more visible. It's just a good common sense thing to do.

Um, america is like Russia then, at least where I'm from. People here disregard the speed limits whatever the weather. We've our first snow today, people were driving 70+ in a construction zone where the posted speed limit is 45 mph. I myself think they're retarded, narcissistic and don't care about killing themselves or others.

In my area of the US people commonly equip winter tires and still often go way slower than they need to. Maybe those are mutually exclusive with who does those things.
@zsoltpapp3363
@zsoltpapp3363 3 жыл бұрын
I agree winter tires work a lot better if there is snow or rain, and the weather is cold. Here in Europe in many countries winter tires are mandatory. On flat ice though winter tires are just as useless as summer tires, you need spikes or chains. And for those who are cheap: there are 4 season tires on the market, not as good as the winter ones but still ok for winter conditions. Also i see many drivers jumps on the brakes when they start to spin, worse thing you can do.

Jack Christian yes, most cars do and they also have stability control systems if they’re newer than 2012 in the US. Even still, the most advanced car technologies in the world still can’t defy physics. It doesn’t register in the mind of some drivers that their cars and CUV/SUV’s that the _faster_ they’re _moving_ in their 2-6 ton vehicles that four tires is all that’s contacting the road. *If those tires can’t effectively grip the road, nothing is going to stop it!*

Some people think because they have 4WD/AWD, this will help them in most situations, but as soon as you are off the throttle it's like any other vehicle. You'd often be better off with FWD and winter tires, than AWD with all-season tires. Winter tires were really excellent even a few decades ago, I can only imagine they're better yet now.

Remember a few years ago when we had that instant ice all over the place because MODOT didn't bother getting the roads salted? I was on 44 that night headed to pick up my son in Rolla. What normally would have been a 90 minute drive turned into 4 hours. I'm not all that far from most of those on highway 55.

I live in Alberta and most drivers don’t know how to drive in winter. We had a dump of snow in September this year and everyone’s driving speed limit and tailgating people. No wonder there are so many crashes. 🙄🙄 like honestly. We should all just drive slow and don’t endanger each other.

@L. Dega No no no, never engage the gear box. That, as you say, will apply a braking force on the front tires, and this makes it more plausible to loose traction and get out of control. If only the front tires brake, the rear end will drive by and thus you are in a carousel.

It isn't only about speed. It's about skill no matter what speed you choose. People too often think that by just slowing down that they've done enough to be safe. If you drive beyond your actual capability for the conditions you're likely to cause a crash. We've just seen the proof.

Being from Minnesota where we learn this before we even get a license this truly is astonishing. The amount of people knowing it’s icy (just by vision) that still decide to take these turns at these speeds is crazy. If you slip at all you’re going too fast. Just slow down. Your time isn’t worth what your going to spend on the crash. Although the vids where it’s just so icy you can’t do anything and slide anyway you’re sol. If roads are that icy you shouldn’t be driving tbh.
