I can see I really must try and simplify the way I paint my minis after watching this

Just found this tutorial and it’s just what I need! I’m just starting a Napoleonics project with AB minis and your tutorial is really helpful. Being used to painting 28mm Napoleonics for years it’s great to get advice from someone with experience of them in a smaller scale. Problem with AB is that they are so good it’s difficult to stick to the three foot rule🤣 I’ll be checking out your other vids and have subscribed. Thanks again. Keith

The 1st Regiment of Chasseurs à Cheval was unique in that in 1815 it wore the lancer style hat with tall comb, issued to it during the first restoration of 1814-15. Of course it wouldn’t have had that headgear pre-1814, so your unit is fine for that period.

Thank god for that.

Thanks for the explanation, wondered what that was about.

@@eruditefool4183 - Recently read something that suggests the 1st Chasseurs were wearing standard shakos while on campaign in 1815. Eyewitness account of them on the road in France shortly after the Waterloo battles.

Excellent tutorial. I love the way you do your horses with the Agrax shading. I am going to have to try that.

Cheers Andrew, anything that makes painting horses easier is my go to!

How do you handle white or black horses Alex?
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
@James Shevlin I would probably do the same (I've not painted any at this scale yet). But with a slight difference, I'd highlight the white horses with white once the Agrax had dried. With Black horses, I'd paint them in VERY dark Brown (German Camo Black Brown, for ex.) rather than black, with a Nuln Oil wash. It's only an idea at the moment as I've not tried it, but it should work and add enough depth to the horseflesh to look OK.

I also realised that I did do a white horse in this lot, I basically did as described above, paint white, agrax wash, highlight in white.

Very interesting I have done AB Napoleonics in black prime for years. Now I am moving to 3d printing my figures and thinking I should go with a white prime. Going to experiment with contrast paints as well. Kudos to you for doing Sharp Practice in 15mm!!
@StormofSteelWargaming3 жыл бұрын
Cheers, glad you liked it. I black prime 6mm figures to be able to black line them easier, but with 15mm it's a light prime all the way!

@@StormofSteelWargaming I have 1815 armies in 6mm but I can't see the little buggers to paint them anymore 🧐

I will try your techique on a flat miniature to see if its work.

Nice. I'm doing 18th century at the moment but might include Napoleonics later in 15s or WG epics if their range expands. Will subscride if you intend some more painting videos. Belated happy new year to you,

Good video! Did you intend to paibt them all as Elite company? The second tab from the left shows the Center companies color (sans red pom-pom, trim, and epaulets).
@StormofSteelWargaming Жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes I did as the figures have the epaulets sculpted on them.

Pretty nice paintjob. But i always get confused with "mm scale" system. Does it refer to 1/76 or 1/72 scale?
@StormofSteelWargaming Жыл бұрын
Thanks, 18mm is 1/87th scale, so slightly smaller than those two.
@mikemodels928 Жыл бұрын
@@StormofSteelWargaming so it's like railroad scale. Thanks for clearing that up.
@PhD777 Жыл бұрын
A true 15mm is close to 1/87th, it is about 1/85th to be precise. The AB 18mm are about 1/75th to 1/74th, so larger than 1/76th but smaller than current 1/72nd. Metal wargaming miniatures are in a world of their own until you get to 1/32nd (54mm) - there you have more uniformity and consistency... sort of. 👍🏻🎅👍🏻
