Story 21: Life-Changing Advice

Hello, friends!!! I just completed my second week here in the new cottage and it's feeling more and more like home. There's still some decorating and sorting out to do ... but I feel like I'm past the worst part of moving now.
I've spent the last few days mulling over some wise words I heard someone utter ... and I wanted to share them here with you : )

I’m reading this a whole year and a half later (Sept ‘24) and I completely agree. I think it’s become a bad habit for many with social media to get on and run people down. I dont know why some people like to do that, I don’t understand what it does for them. Certainly nothing positive. When you build someone else up you build yourself up at the same time. It is SO EASY to be kind! To say good things to people, whether that’s online or in person. If I see condone in the street who has a lovely outfit on or a great smile or whatever I love to compliment them as I walk by. It never fails to make them smile and I love passing on that little bit of positive energy and love.

Nice shower! Walk constantly so you don't lose it. I am almost 68. A few years back I underwent radiation and chemo. I had chemo for six months and during that six months all I could do is go from the couch to the bed, couch to bed. My leg muscles atrophied. I can walk well now except for going up stairs. I have to hold on to a railing and help pull myself up stairs. I have always said, "Use it or lose it." I have noticed on myself as well as older people, if I don't get up and move around all day, I am unsteady on my feet. Always walk, young people. Keeping active will help you live longer and your body not break down. That Charlie! What a cutie! Your new cottage is adorable.

It’s true. When you lose your health you lose a huge part of your life that you once took for granted. I am working on getting back my own health after illness and it is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I used to be so active, an10,000 steps a day person, and now I find I am lucky if I take 1,000. It’s very daunting but I have to let go of the past and what I used t9 be able to do and look forward to the future. Thanks for reminding me. ❤

So very true how important & beneficial it is to be thankful for all we tend to take for granted. I am housebound now with health issues, however I am so very joyful in my relationship with Jesus. Your videos are something I celebrate. Thank you!

I had a terrible time trying to get back to normal after a "C" battle. I got into a four month Medical Exercise program at the fitness center of my local hospital. You have one on one with a trainer and I can't begin to say how much it has helped me. I made more progress in these 4 months than I did in the year before on my own. They never pushed me to hard but encouraged me.

Your wise words are also my wise words. I have a little book that I've made which I titled "Words of Widom/Words to Live By and in it I write all the wisdom I've learned during my 65 years of life. I read through this book every morning to remind myself of how I want to live. One of the things I have in my book is "Don’t take things for granted; appreciate (be grateful for) what you have". Thank you for telling us your story about this. It is so true!

I absolutely love your channel. I live in Hawaii and Washington state. I just love all the things that you’re interested in and all the colors in your little cottage and the old fashion elements. I love that you’re so sweet with your little doggie, and that you love cooking and gardening, piano playing, and you’re humble, and so beautiful. Your channel makes me feel so peaceful. Happy I found your channel. Love your little cottage ❤️. Gratitude is so important to remember. My mother had ALS and was totally bed ridden for the last 6 months of her life. She could not move on her own. She would have given anything to get out of that bed. When is lay in the bed resisting getting up, I think of her. What a gift to be able to get up and live my day. She lost that. So now, I never forget that and get up without hesitation ❤️. Gratitude ❤️🙏❤️

Your cottage looks incredible! It is amazing you have only been there two weeks! What wonderful progress. I also noticed that you were setting up your easel. You should paint or collage the beautiful night moon that you showed in your video. I think it was around the three minute forty second mark in your video. Anyway, the moment I saw that footage, I had the urge to go paint that feeling the night sky gave me. Nature can be such inspiration for conjuring up feeling/ emotions, which in turn, makes one want to go create. I'm new here and I just have to say I'm so glad you showed up in my feed. Love the energy you give out. Thank you. When you were talking about taking things for granted, it's true. I've worked very hard my whole life, I'm only 50, but have always been very fit, then 6 years ago I became very sick. Not going to into it but last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease and as a result developed lymphoedema. With everything else this has really but me hard. I'm currently going through a flare up and walking is painful. Eventually they'll get the medication right but in the meantime, I can do maybe 1 or 2 jobs a day and then that's it. So yes, don't take anything for granted. Just getting up out of bed and starting the day is something everyone should pay more attention to and appreciate, no matter how busy you are or what stage in your life you're at 😊 xx

Thank you so much. I needed this sweet video right now. I'm working on a DIY project that has me super frustrated. I had to stop and breathe. Like you were talking about earlier in the video, of being grateful. I know I am grateful to be able to do the things that I can and the knowledge I have garnered from it. Thank you for helping me center. The stew looks amazing. I use coconut milk for a lot of my cooking but I never thought about using it with those ingredients. For your pantry room, you could put up floating shelves, which would give you more floor space. A plank of wood with some adorable knobs on the wall would be a great place to hang up brooms, dustpans and the sort. I put twine on the top handle and hang mine up on the door.

It's nice to see that Charley is settling into his new home. We all knew it would only be a matter of a little time. After all, you're there with him and he loves and depends upon you. Your place is looking great and the pantry doesn't look terrible. In fact, the cabinet without glass is quite unique. It looks good with the plants too. You'll get your outdoor area in the order you'd like it to be, as well. These things take time. You're doing a fantastic job and I'm going to imagine you may feel it all looks worse than we think it does...because I think everything looks good! One day at the time....!

I did grow up in Delaware! And sadly, no : ( I don't know of any other great thrift store spots ... other than the Goodwill on Kirkwood Highway ... which I'm sure you already know about. If you're up for a drive, there's an amazing thrift store down in Edgwood, MD. I think it's called Prime Thrift. It's huge : )

My younger sister was born with cerebral palsey. She changed my perspective on life from a very young age. Any day I can get up and put two feet on the floor and stand on two strong legs is a good day. There are always challenges, and some days feel awful, but I'm always conscious of how blessed I am to have a measure of health.

Moving is such an exciting and overwhelming experience all rolled into one! Your new boho cottage is looking so cozy… love the pantry! It’s going to work out just fine. I moved a little over a year ago and into a home that my husband and I are doing a complete tear out and renovation… I stay clam by focusing on little areas that I can tackle and keeping things as organized as possible. We will finally be getting flooring in our main living area after over a year of plywood floors🎉🎉🎉 I’m so excited.

If you haven’t gotten flooring yet I highly recommend Lifeproof Waterproof Flooring from Home Depot. We have it in all of our rooms and love it! So easy to care for.

I so agree. We take for granted the things we can do on a daily basis, the world that's been provided & the animals and people in it. This is all a gift we've been given and the more we're reminded how things can change in an instance through others, our own experiences & self realization through reflection, then we're on the right path towards gratitude. Once we all have that, we'll start preserving our beautiful earth, everything in it and ourselves. From that we'll start the process of healing and growing (glowing). Today's 1/13/23 the kitchen looks 👀 much better with the new stove and ur fridge. In the back where u have the basket and all things just throwed in a pile. Buy an industrial metal shelf from Walmart, home Depot, Lowe's etc . That would work for that area and leave plenty of space to put things. 💜 Just saying. Everything takes time can't wait to see 👀 U enjoy ur garden. Make sure U use things in the yard to put things on. Just paint them. Luv ur four legged baby he's cute.

You are so right. I've always appreciated what I have. Severe knee arthritis is limiting my life. I can't wait until I can have knee replacements and get back to moving without judging distances or my pain level. I love seeing your cottage grow into a home. It's going to be just perfect. As a side note-you mentioned you were going to look on Poshmark for another set of curtains. I hadn't realized that Poshmark had anything but clothes! I'd been looking for a twin bed quilt and I went on there and found a pretty peach floral one for $25. I didn't know the brand when I ordered it, but it turned out to be Laura Ashley, which is totally my taste, and the seller included a matching sham and a pillow form. So thank you for sharing that info. :)
