Description: A rogue planet (also termed an interstellar, nomad, free-floating, unbound, orphan, wandering, starless, or sunless planet) is an interstellar object of planetary-mass, therefore smaller than fusors (stars and brown dwarfs) and without a host planetary system. Such objects have been ejected from the planetary system in which they formed or have never been gravitationally bound to any star or brown dwarf.
The Milky Way alone may have billions to trillions of rogue planets, a range the upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will likely be able to narrow down. Some planetary-mass objects may have formed in a similar way to stars, and the International Astronomical Union has proposed that such objects be called sub-brown dwarfs.

Planetballs are basically same to Polandballs, the difference is the character, not countries, but space objects including stars, planets, moons and even galaxies.

Aww, such a bittersweet story. I wish there was a part two in which a star catches the rogue planet and it ends up in the goldilocks zone, evolving life eventually.

There's this one Twilight Zone episode...at the very end, it turns out that Earth has been knocked off its orbit and is going further and further away from the Sun, getting colder and colder. I always liked to think that maybe someday way in the future, aliens would find it, see signs of a civilization (preserved under the ice) and know they weren't always alone.

this feels like a very polished version of planetballs . . that also doesn't have as much nonesence that also makes this series a bit more fun and wiewer-friendly than many others :D
@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim
@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that is very unlikely to happen. XD If a Rogue planet is captured by a star, the orbit would be so eccentric (Oval shaped) that it wouldn't be consistently in the goldilocks zone. To give it perspective, in one year, it could go as close to the sun as Mercury or Venus, and go as far out as Mars or Jupiter.
@Zedyne
@Zedyne 2 жыл бұрын
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim I know, I am familiar with these orbital mechanics. But, on the other hand, we have Triton. It's a captured moon of Neptune, so, if it happened on that scale, why shouldn't it happen on a larger one?
@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim
@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim 2 жыл бұрын
@@Zedyne Because there's a massive difference in Mass and velocity. An Earth-like planet is 80% larger than Triton, and approaching from Interstellar Space at Interstellar speeds is much different than having a similar orbit. To put it into perspective, if the Sun was unable to capture a comet from Interstellar Space, why would it be able to capture a planet?

Ok idea: history of a binary star system with planets and 2 sun like stars. The stars can be close enoth together to share mass with each other causing them to oscolate in size and brightness back and forth over time in pulses. They eventually can stabilize around the time life can evolve on a planet

Sadly that is quite unlikely to happen. I think the planet needs to do a gravity assist with a gas giant, or slow down by interacting with some gas. Otherwise it is just going to fly by an alien sun…

Could it be possible that a rogue super Jupiter planet could be washed out of their home system by their star going supernova? Maybe it would heat up on side of the planet which would boil off part of the atmosphere applying pressure in the other direction like a rocket? Or maybe the pressure of the high-speed gasses coming off the supernova could slowly push the planet out of orbit? Or would supernovae just vaporize even a planet several times larger than Jupiter?
