Through the mercy of God - Mihai might say ... all Voievods knew that nothing ever happens outside God's will. That was their official introduction to their titles "I, Mihai, through the mercy of Lord, Ruller of Wallachia, of Ardeal and of Moldavia". But now we live under a democracy, as God's mercy excludes us the posibility of having totalitarian christian rullers protecting national interest like before ...

Haha, yeah, hungarian and romanians...old battle stories. But this was the tumultous history, all these men faught for their power, wealth and maybe for their country. I am proud of Mihai and I think he was one of thr few genius comanders in Europe and had a lion hearth, but Romania was too little in the middle of too many powerful enemies. If it wouldnt have been spreaded around, with its provinces, that much, more united... maybe the history was another.

we have been forced to resist. When you want your own country so badly you'll do almost anything to keep it against so many waves of strong empires craving it for millenia. We have had to defend our lands against some of the toughest empires of our times, including the Roman empire, the Ottoman empire, and more recently the Soviet Union. The revolution of 1989 had been mostly the Soviet Union's doing which at that time have been an empire. Anyway, against such threats you need brave, wise, and intelligent rulers or else....

There was definitely power in Vlad’s bloodline
@Kalimdor199Menegroth
@Kalimdor199Menegroth 4 жыл бұрын
Vlad's bloodline was a warrior bloodline. The Basarab bloodline gave numerous warrior princes. Wallachia was known for its warriors, this spirit being relevant still today with the southerners being much more conflict seeking, more temperamental, more jealous/envious, Moldova was the seat of intellectuals and the few warrior princes being related to the Basarab dynasty (Stephen the Great being Vlad's cousin) while Transylvania was known for its merchants. This format still applies today, albeit Moldova is less of an intellectual center, Bucharest managing to somehow even the odds in this regard. Still, roughly 2/3 of our major artists, writers and scientists either hailed from Moldova or were educated there.

Fascinating historical presentation of a time and a place that I did not know anything about. Michael the Brave (and he deserves that title) won many battles that he should have lost, pulling a rabbit out of the hat more than once to turn the tide of battle. If he had not alienated all his allies and potential allies, he may have lived to complete his task of the unification of Romania. As it is, he did a remarkable job with what he had. No one he met in battle surpassed him as a field commander. It was a lack of men and resources alone that caused his final defeat. Great series! Kept my interest for the whole time, despite the plethora of unfamiliar names and places I had to keep up with.

He was a briliant general, yet he didn't die on the battlefield against the Turks, but he was betrayed and killed by Christians who were supposed to fight along his side against the Turks... I personally consider him the most important ruller of any Romanian pricipality of all times, because for the first time since Burebista, he managed (even briefly) to unify almost all the Dacian lands in a single country- he was even called "Malus Dacus" (bad Dacian) by his enemies. Anyway, he managed to do a lot of things in only 8 years of rulling, with such small resources both in manpower, weapons and money. As for the Romanians, they were always at the confluence of greater powers and empires interests, always heavily outnumbered and outgunned in most of the battles against Turks, Austro-Hungarians, Polish, Russians, Germans... Yet somehow they managed to survive... If you wanna watch a similar documentary about another Romanian true hero king - Vlad the Impaler, watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4qbY3imqNuVh5o

@aviaxis6261
@aviaxis6261 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimijimbow2830 Romanian history is much more complex than this... remember we are here for 3000 years... In this instance, Vlad, even though he scared the shit out of the Ottomans, at historical scale he wasn't as big of a deal as his grandfather Mircea the Wise for instance, who freed Dobrogea. Also Vlad couldn't even be compared to his cousin, Voievod of Moldova, Steven the Great (notice our voievods have a nickname), who ruled for 47 years, had a big fight almost every year and only lost a couple of them in total. The difference between him and Mihai was that he was extremely good at diplomacy and (unlike Mihai) he never fought everybody in the same time, completely alone. After Mihai the Ottomans tried to wipe us completely many times but our Latin culture always prevailed, and we also had heroic voievods who managed to resist even without and army. For instance Constantin Brancoveanu was captured by the Ottomans and forced to watch all his 7 children and his wife being beheaded in front of him then he famously said something like: on my honor, I will not be a Turk until my head sits up there. And so it was, we never got to be Turks thank to his sacrifice.
