Rabbi, I would appreciate a conversation on any format you prefer. I need to speak to an expert, and I am far from one, for I was never taught. My family split from the religion a generation or two ago, for various reasons. Some stayed, but they abandoned my mother, brother and I, when the jew died, my father. He had married a catholic, as did his father, and so those who were more "conservative" made sure to express their distaste with us, without being "OBVIOUS" to children's eyes but hindsight is 20/20... So I have never truly seen the religion in a "positive light"... but those are my people, whether I like it or not. And one of them was righteous, he did try, but he had a life of his own. He did his best so I don't blame him. But I can not in good conscience go to someone less than a rabbi with my concerns and so I can not in good faith confide in him seeking answers to my questions. Would you do me the honor? I like how you present the information, even if I cant understand the hebrew. I may never be religious again, but my family is your family... knowingly or not, direct or not... Al Goodman

The 'Jew' would have to be your mother, grandmother, etc, to be a Jew. Being identified as a Jew comes from women since you can prove who your mother was, not your father, without modern testing. This guidance dates back to Abraham. You'd have to convert otherwise. If it's important to you you'll find a rabbi near you to discuss your interest. If you don't have one, why talk to a rabbi? To understand Judaism? That takes a lifetime. To understand a Jew in the family? For what purpose? Find the rabbi they knew, otherwise it's not relevant.

Should the rabbi who is claiming to be present for the people ONLINE be present for them? Or should he just act like it? See, my family went to the public, and it invited them into their home. It didn't say "Oh you had to be born of a mother jew cause we care about that stupid shit." You are speaking as one that would have been denied, because they deny people like you. Do not worry about what my concerns are about if you are not the chosen person asked. Its ok, I'll find god my way, you do it yours.
