An amazing co-op can mean so much! We are lucky in our small town to have a larger, amazing co-op that meshes great with our beliefs and values and we couldn't imagine homeschool without it!

Oh, how I loved listening to this chat - we do have a large co-op (called fellowship) in our city, but it's on a break again this year so a few of us made a mini co-op and we love it! Interestingly, the large co-op was started with a few friends chatting on the porch of another friend's house when everyone was dreaming about building community. As the director of the large one, I have lots of feelings like you - I don't want to feel "in charge" and I'm working to help others find their gifts within the fellowship so that although I sign the rental agreement on the building ;) we are all working together to pour into the scholars each week. As for our mini co-op, we do meet every week, but switch between the riches one week and a specific nature study/object lesson/hike at an area park the opposite week. I look forward to hearing updates about your year!

Thanks for the video! I just started homeschooling (Kindergarten) and I joined a co-op mainly for support for me🤣 but truly I wanted to start a Montessori Christian homeschool co op because that is what I am interested in. It’s a very small niche. But I may do it down the road. Thanks again for the ideas !

I’m brand new to Charlotte Mason home education, and I also yearn for some community. Im trying to figure out how to meet people in my area that would want to do something not too much, because we do have our own plans, but regularly. I’m glad to see people building this community 🥳

We have nothing either...which is why I host a very small co-op once a week and it's strictly unit study approach and is so fun - all close friends ☺❤

I certainly feel you on the like minded homeschooling style co-op. In our community we are very much in the same boat!! We fall in between unschooling and CM and let me tell you most homeschooling families I know don't even care to talk about what they're doing! It's very academically based pretty much traditional schooling at home I guess and our co-ops are just that! Seems like as soon as kids hit middle school everyone starts following the public academic table/criteria and style of teaching/learning. Which always make me feel a bit out of place and we're the only family I know of doing it differently...🤷‍♀️ Thus the reason I need mom like you sharing online!! I wish we had even just one family that educated like we do but nope not one. I'm so happy for you that God layout it out so well that truly wonderful and a great blessing for yall! I know God has great plans for us and will bring us down the road we need to take!!

I am in the same boat in our co-op. (Our co-op is a mostly for fellowship, social group.) When you said most homeschoolers you know don’t even care to talk about what they are doing. I am a mix of Classical and CM. Hardly anyone cares to talk about academics. I understand needing a break from it, but that’s not what I’m referring to. It’s so strange. It seems that most people here follow the public school mindset. I cannot fathom their reasoning.

Oh I wish I could find a group like this! It's so hard where I live. We live in rural FL. We ended up joining CC because we felt like it was our only choice and it is not going well AT ALL! Challenge A is not clicking at all. I feel like these first 6 weeks have been a waste. We were so happy last year doing CM style!

I am actually starting a small CM inspired book club this year. Just a few friends with kids around the same age. We will be reading a classic children’s book and doing some related activities and nature study every 6-8 weeks.

I just looked through her Playlists and didn't see anything. I'd love more in depth descriptions and how to get started on CM. I love the idea of it, but I cannot read Charlotte's books. It feels very overwhelming.

@@gracefullychaotic9811 If you listen to podcasts, I highly recommend The New Mason Jar with Cindy Rollins! Also, Karen Glass has a few books (one specifically on narration, Know and Tell, and one on Charlotte Mason’s 20 Principles, In Vital Harmony) that would be a great place to start! Sometimes a video talking about it is more approachable though ☺️

I would like to point out that you shouldn't be sorry for the way you presented this as it was done very well and true to Charlotte Mason as well. If you were writing a book/ guide for starting a co-op you did just that but in a living book kinda way instead of a text book way, just saying. Also your group sounds very fun, wish I could be part of it as my kids grow lol 😀

I know exactly what you mean about keeping it small the first year. My few friends and I also started a co op and we have a total of like 24 kids also!!! So similar but ours isn’t exactly Charlotte Mason even though I do picture study with the kids…which part of Florida are you in? I wonder if we have anything in the area that is Charlotte Mason probably not… last time I checked there wasn’t much either just like you said….

We have tried to do this over the last couple months and it's so disappointing. We cannot find any place to get together. No one wants a bunch of homeschoolers and we don't want to meet at a local park, and we have so many moms that want to get together. We have a big CC community here too and they wanted to "recruit us", but it was a HUGE NO. We will not be apart of CC ever even if a lot of our friends are in it.
