It's nothing against the teacher personally, but I hope she was let go or at least put into a different department after that lockdown anxiety attack. Making an entire class think they were going to die would've mentally scarred some of those kids. While it's okay to be prone to anxiety, if she were a teacher during a real lockdown, it could endanger the lives of many children.

Last time I was in a real lockdown, there was a lady with a gun walking around my neighborhood close to the school. She didn't shoot anyone, but she appeared very drunk. We sat there in the dark of the library's basement for a good 45 minutes, and the flash light only made it more creepy. The worst part is, they didn't tell us it was a real lock down.

I had a lockdown today. We were pushed into a random classroom, and I got stuck in the computer room. That is literally the worst classroom to get stuck in during a lockdown in our school. No windows to escape from, and it's the farthest away from all the exits. We found out that there was a gunshot that was one street away from us. I was just reading a book to pass the time because we were in there forever. We later found out during 4th period that there was no gunshot. A car backfired and it sounded like a gun. Supposedly the driver heard us go into lockdown (the announcement speakers are really loud) and so he/she called the schools one at a time and told them his/her car backfired and he apologized. A lot of my classmates scoffed but I told them that the school did the right thing. They didn't know what it was, and they wanted to keep us safe and out of harm's way. The rest of the day was normal.

Seriously if this lady is breaking down on the middle of class and calling the students awful then she probably shouldn’t be teaching. Teachers need to be calm and strong in these situations, freaking out and telling kids that they’ll most likely die is a really bad thing to do in a lockdown when you’re supposed to be quiet and hidden. When I was in six grade in math class, it was about 1:55 pm and we were getting ready to leave the class because we go to next period in 5 minutes but then as I was putting my stuff away, a voice came on the intercom saying that teachers should not release their students. So we just sat there for about 20 minutes, and everyone didn’t think much of it. Until about 2 hours passed and it was like 4:30 pm and we get out of school at 3:24 pm. At this point everyone looked at the clock and kept asking the teacher when we will go home. About 3 hours later.... we were still in school still in math class, and we were not Given any information about why we could not leave school. It’s like 7pm and it’s getting dark out. The only thing we were told was to stay in the class room and no one was allowed to be in the hall. And at this point parents were like surrounding the school yelling at people asking where their child was. A girl who sat next to me went on her phone and checked the news. It turns out that our school was on the news and she started crying. I didn’t know what she read but it seemed pretty bad. So I just sat there in my seat with this blank look on my face. People were calling their parents and stuff. Meanwhile these men came and checked classrooms, but when we asked for information they didn’t say anything about it and left. It was 9:20 pm now and people came to our classroom bringing carts of food. And there was a big line to charge people’s phones. Around 12:40 am (past midnight) we were still in the classroom and kids started passing out on the desks and floor. More than half the class was asleep. Then these guys came to our classroom and gave us black trash bags to put out shoes, backpacks, and socks in. I was so confused but I did it anyways. About 2 hours later they came back letting us out of the classroom and we walked towards the lunch room and they took the bags and checked me. I then walked out of school barefoot and my ex step dad picked me up. It was 3:30 in the morning now and police were everywhere. And I still didn’t know what was going on. I found out that I didn’t have school for the rest of the week. Then in the news I found out my school had a mercury spill. And they kept students in the classrooms to keep them safe from getting mercury on them. And this is a true story!

As a teacher...THIS is why new teachers, need a Mentor who is literally next door and willing to be with them regularly. Another great step is for new graduates to short-term sub for the year, so that they can get their classroom management sea legs underneath them, before having to also worry about content. We really throw new teachers in the deep end, college programs do NOT prepare them efficiently. This underserves students, communities and the new teacher (who has a 50% chance of quitting in the first three years).

Thank you for posting this. It's important to talk about. I think that teachers need to be trained in two additional items in additional to protocol for lockdowns. First, creating a caring school culture: "We are in lockdown, and we all care about each other, and we will work hard to take care of each other if anything happens." Second, normalize difficult emotions and how to feel them without hurting ourselves or others: "It's ok to feel sad, scared or angry. Where do you feel those emotions in your body? What does it feel like? And, how can we express them and feel them without hurting ourselves or others?" It's important to acknowledge and process emotions even during a drill to help reduce anxiety and fear in the overall school culture. Your teacher in this video could have used some training in how to handle her emotions, too. She probably would have benefitted from counseling. It would have helped her, and it would have helped you all.

I had a bomb threat at my school, I was in 3rd grade! There was some event happening after school and so all of the kids were dressed nicely. All of a sudden, the office got a call saying there were bombs in our school. So, we all hurried far from the school and lined up while cops checked it out. It started pouring rain, and everyones nice clothes were getting ruined. We were all standing in very long lines, waiting for about 4 hours. It was a terrifying experience. Ive had two similar experiences to that, so the first one was a couple months back. So I was in math class and it was a double period, which I always dreaded because there was a lot of mean nasty bullies that were in the class and just a lot of loud obnoxious kids who I didn’t like all crammed into the room with. So as the bell rings almost the whole class goes into the hall for a break and I stay in the class just to draw on my math paper and check my phone because my mom had texted the family group chat. Besides me there was one other boy who I somewhat knew, but he was a pain in the rear and I didn’t like him much so I just ignored him. All of sudden I heard the announcement come on the loud speakers. I thought at first it was going to be something along the lines of “Jeremy Black please report to the nurse’s office” or something like that. But instead of that I hear teachers lock your doors and the whole robotic voice message to go into lockdown. And at this point I’m still calm because at my school we get surprise lockdown, tornado, earthquake, and fire drills a lot. Then all of a sudden I hear my very sweet study hall teacher who is tough as nails badass not scared of anything screaming at the top of her lungs “get in a classroom!!” Along with my science teacher who never yells “to get in the f*cking classroom!” And everyone is screaming in the halls and running in every direction. Then my substitute math teacher who looks like a former drill sergeant comes sprinting in my classroom with two girls, let’s call them Julia and Parker. We all bunch up the in corner of the room and I’m texting my mom and best friend non stop. I thought I was going to die. I thought if the gunman comes into my classroom they’re going to at first shoot my teacher who is on the right far side of the corner and then the easiest targets, kids. I though after they shoot the teacher they’re going to shoot me because I’m on the left far side of the corner. In all of this I’m praying and also thinking of a way I could get these kids out. So I ball up and keep my head down and I advise the mean boy in my class, Parker, and Julia to keep their heads down and stay down. Five minutes pass by and the police knock on our door and it’s all clear and my assistant principal makes an announcement that it was a glitch in the system. At this point I have an utter an complete meltdown panic attack. I couldn’t breathe and I was just sobbing uncontrollably and so I go down to my councilor and I call my mom telling her it’s a glitch and to come pick me up because after I have a panic attack I’m scared straight and shaken for the rest of the day.

It was a populated area with stores and evertything across and next to the school this included a bank and naborhood . someone had robbed the bank and ran into our school yard. Hearing the words full lockdown and not a drill... We were horrified. We could hear tazers and gun shots this man was armed.
