As someone that once managed bathhouses for 13 years in North America (and released a book about it - Bathhouse Babylon), eventually, everyone gets seen or caught out at a bathhouse. The ones that try to hide while going into or are inside a bathhouse, tend to stand out the most. It's all good, as long as you are having fun and keep in mind - if they recognized you, they are in the same place too. Nothing to be embarrassed about, unless you get up to something you shouldn't and it becomes the talk of the steambath...or makes it into a book. ;) Love you guys and your videos!

I understand Andrew's reaction completely. In my younger, prettier days I was the manager of a gay adult webcam house. I lived in the house with the guys and spent years on cam, mostly clothed (thank goodness) but gained some unexpected notoriety. The first experience was at a local gay bar when some out of town fans had come to vacation ( this was Orlando Florida) and we were all out at the bar. A site member walked up to me and with tears in his eyes and a shaky voice he said, "I can't believe I'm actually getting to meet you in person and shake your hand!" I literally looked over my shoulder, thinking he was talking to one of the boys who was standing next to me, leaning on my shoulder. But no, he meant ME. I didn't know how to react or what to say. I felt like an idiot and even introduced myself! AWKWARD So I can only imagine Andrew's surprise while in more "intimate" atmosphere shall we say. Loving the videos as always. I would never reject Meng, but I'll never get the chance to prove or disprove that statement, LOL I have no desire to spend thousands of dollars and hours of travel time to visit a place where I'd be discriminated against around every corner. I can get that treatment right here in the U.S. much cheaper! 🤣

While living in korea, I was very briefly on an extremely popular television show and got called out at a bathhouse. I was extremely embarrassed, but they were exceedingly excited and very forceful to continue. Others who would not have given me the time of day a week before we're suddenly very curious to meet me. It's a weird situation.

So many random thoughts. I'll try to be concise: - Andrew: Thank you for being so transparent re: your experience. It makes total sense. - Meng: The hair determination as a barrier to entry is unfortunate. I am a bigger guy and have been rejected from a few places. I get it. - Popularity of theme: Yes! The BJ bar is my favorite video. I missed those opportunities when I was visiting. I'll have to fix that. - Exit music: I love it! Cute, fun, and poppy! Am a New subscriber to your channel since last 3 days & am so thankful for your honesty, candidness, fun, sincere & meticulous approach to your topics. When I was younger, I used to be a Total Bottom; however, as I got older & wiser I evolved into a Total Dominant Top! Having said that, I've had my share of being totally embarrassed & rejected inside a gay bathhouse. Thru the years, I've learned to accept the fact that "I'm NOT everyone's type." As for Meng's experience with his "long hairstyle," that would NEVER happen here in the USA bec that would be catergorized as "outright discrimination." I'm extremely surprised that gay establishments in Japan STILL employs such practices!

This was a lovely video and a great story. It does seem to be a gay men's culture to look for sex with people who don't know you, who you will not form bonds with. I wonder if that comes from the shame gay, bi and pan men are made to feel about same sex attraction? If someone knows we do "this sort of thing" then they will think les of us? I don't think it's necessarily bad or anything, I just think it's interesting. Turning a feeling of shame into excitement is very powerful. Sorry for over thinking it :D
@USCanthony2 жыл бұрын
@ Matt McSherry For some gay men, going to bathhouses and having a "one time" anonymous sexual encounter may very well be tied to repressed feelings of shame. If you grew up in a catholic household and went to church every Sunday, you have a so much guilt and shame rammed down your throat your whole life and there probably isn't anyway to escape those feelings. I can easily see how some gay men will fall into that trap and the only way they can survive the shame and guilt is not to face it afterwards. They will repress their shameful and guilty feelings and after a almost sleepless week, those thoughts and feelings will almost be forgotten. Until the next time they have a desire for human contact beyond a handshake or hug and then that cycle will repeat itself. Not having to face the person you did that shameful and dirty sin with simply helps the mind forget quicker. All gay men do not view their lifestyle or sex as shameful though. I was born gay. At 3 years old I knew I liked other boys and seriously used to fantasize about licking one of the neighbor boys nipples when I layed in bed at night. Yep, seriously...3 years old. Because I have always known that it is not something that was ever under my control, I have never felt guilty or shameful about it, It is what it is and it is what I am. There isn't any way I could have changed that so why feel guilty or shameful for doing something that is (at least for me and many other gay men) natural. Having sex with a woman would feel wrong and unnatural to me. Many gay men feel this way and the further you get from coming out, the more you accept it. Those very same gay men that feel that way also go to bathhouses A LOT. SO if they do not feel guilt or shame about living as a gay man and having sex with other men, what is the lure of the bathhouse and anonymous sex? Men, be it straight or gay are sexual creatures. Some more than others but all men are somewhat ruled by the head between their legs not on their shoulders. Women are not highly sexualized like men are. Sure, women enjoy good sex just like men do but women can be satisfied with a sexual encounter (be it good or not all that great) and they can go a long time before they need to satisfy that urge again. Young men can't even go a day without trying to find a sex partner. The urge lessens in older men but older men usually can't go more than a few weeks before needing to satisfy the the building desire to have sex. Straight men are in an unenviable position. Because they are straight, (as in not bi) they need a woman for a sexual partner. Some straight men have women FWB's but still....it isn't going to happen as often as they want it too. Gay men on the other hand simply need another man to quench that urge. And guess what? The other man (or just about every gay man) is also looking to satisfy their urges. And they are always looking. That is why the bathhouse is such a big deal in gay culture. Long before there was ever an Internet or "online" sites. There were gay bars/clubs and the bathhouse. Those that are feeling picky and are not at a week without sex yet will go out to the gay bars and clubs. As long as you don't keep turning people down thinking that your ideal perfect man is just around the next corner or at the next bar, there is a pretty reasonable chance that you will pick up a trick and spend the rest of your evening shagging away (not if you live in Japan of course. Japan is a whole different animal). If you don't feel like playing coy cat and mouse games and you just need and want sex as quickly as possible, the bathhouse is the place for you. It is still the one place where a gay man can go and as long as he is open minded, he will get some d**k and @$$. Once again....not in Japan. If you are a foreigner in a Japanese gay bathhouse you only have a 25% to 30% chance of hooking up with a trick. If you are Japanese the odds get better but you still only have a 50% to 60% chance of hooking up with a trick. Unless you are the proverbial always on your back slut but much like the unicorn everywhere else, that type of slut is never a Japanese man. Ironically, unicorns do exist in Japan but not the rest of the world. "Alway on your back" sluts are a dime a dozen in most other countries but only exist in Japan as the tourist from another country (America, Canada etc...). I was obviously bored here and was waiting for a friend that is always late so I got carried away with what I have written. I could have just said that not all gay men feel guilty or shameful and all gay men are horn dogs so for many gay men the bathhouse is the easy outlet to satisfy their sexual needs (daily for some). Why type the easy reply when you can write a book though. My late friend has arrived though so it is time to finally get out of the house, If some of you actually read this far, hope you enjoyed the story.

Andrew's story was hilarious. If I had been in Andrew's position, I think I would have gotten out of there as quickly as possible. It just seems that the other person knowing things about you while you don't know anything about them puts you in a vulnerable position. At least it would seem that way in the moment. Those two guys may have only had the best of intentions and may have been a bit turned on by thinking they were going to get together with a KZbin celebrity. In the moment though I am sure that what goes through your mind is your exposed vulnerability. It does make for a very entertaining story though. I am not a celebrity (KZbin or otherwise) though so that type of thing has never been a concern when going to a bathhouse. What concerns me about going to a bathhouse is running into any of my close friends having sex in the public areas. I just know I would go hysterically blind and might even pass out which would not be good in the center of a bathhouse.
