About 2 years ago I had a client that I admired and highly respected and she turned out to be the worst client I’ve ever had. Now that time has passed and I’ve accepted the learning lesson I can now talk about it. 2022 is all about getting rid of negative people, things, and energy and so far it has been an extremely freeing journey for me.

I imagine as an organizer you are also a therapist helping your clients declutter and get their spaces together. My husband had his own construction business many years ago, a customer went bankrupt owing him so much money. He used it as a learning experience too, if builders were behind he stopped work, placed liens, and did what he had to. He lost a lot of money while still paying his men, and we spent years paying off the supplier bill- thankfully they worked with us. You learn a lot being in business for yourself. You've taken the right approach, forgive, learn, move on. Tfs.

Omg, my worst fear came through. So sorry my dear for your loss, but glad it was a lesson well learned. Hindsight is always 20-20. She will not prosper. However, you can have story time about the great clients and worst. Provide a balance so that there's some positivity on your channel. But you may need to be careful as some clients may figure out you're talking about them and may feel betrayed. And possibly can hurt your business. Be cautious with this idea. So sorry this happened to you. It's never a nice feeling when you realize that you've been scammed. I, myself, was scammed. Luckily I was only out a couple hundred dollars. It dose change you as a person once this happens. I know personally I don't really like that I've now become a more suspicious person but we have to protect ourselves.

Her life is full of lies so I can only believe her life is stressful and exhausting. Thankfully, most of my experiences with my clients have been transforming and beautiful. I won't let this experience change the way I trust others. I'm definitely more aware though.

yea, sad some people like to scam others but glad it wasn't worse and glad you now have payment measures in place to guard your business to assure payment. I've lived and learned so I feel where you are coming from! Keep the videos coming! :)

I get so frustrated when I hear these types of stories!!! I have 2 family members who are like this. One of them went to jail because of it. They are a mother and daughter team. They have stolen credit card info and even had the nerve to open different credit lines under my sisters name! Because my cousin worked at an insurance company that my sister was a client for. That’s why she went to jail.

I am so sorry you experienced this. I worked in corrections for over 30 years and I predicted the outcome of your story after you described what she said about the people in her work place. Is there a reason why you don’t put everything in writing/contract with the expectation of half the money due up front and the remainder after the project is finished? Seems this protects both you and your client. I hope sister girl isn’t out there scamming some poor unsuspecting soul right now. Prayers of God’s protection over your business, you and you family. Gurl yes, when you are just starting out and have an open heart with loving what you do and helping people, sometimes we get scammed. Sucks, but it is a learning experience. Great you learned after your first time, it took me a couple of times but I finally got my act together! Loved your story time. I'm gonna subscribe to you on my other channel also! Man that really sucks.. maybe try to make an estimate and require a 60% payment to start with the job, with the 40% to be paid at completion of the job. Another idea is to make an estimate with a certain amount of hours you think it will require and that if more hours are needed, the first estimate gets invoiced to pay for the work already completed, and a second estimate is send to the client (again 60% to start) so that you are always on the same page, the client always gives his consent and you make sure you get paid.

Hello and evening Judi. Wow, that was a horrible experience but I thank you for sharing it b/c unfortunately, we are human and can overlook certain red flags. However, I'm glad that you were able to make peace and come to terms with it and not lose your business by the setback. Do have set contracts that clearly lists all your fees upfront including consultations now?

This is so sad and hurtful!!! Women should support each other, especially women of color!!! That's okay! God will restore what was lost. I pray abundance in your small business. That woman will have to answer for all the wrong she has done to you and others that are involved in her business of scamming people. Can't run and hide forever. You be blessed and trust no one.

I remember last year when I was desperate to get organized, I contacted some organizers in my area. I had a free virtual consultation with one and I felt really bad that I decided not to go through with the organizing. I just felt as though she didn’t really understand what I needed based on what she was saying. I still feel a little guilty that I essentially wasted her time with the consultation but I just felt like she wasn’t the best fit for what I needed during that time 🥴 I understand why people charge for a consultation (especially if it’s an in person consultation) but I also understand from the customer’s perspective as to why paid consultations can be intimidating, especially if it doesn’t work at. At least you have your social media accounts so people know what to expect with/from you so I would be fine doing a paid consultation with you as opposed to someone else who I have no idea who they really are (if that makes sense)

Hi, Judi. I am so sorry that you had to go through that horrible experience! One off the vendors that we contracted with at my last job requires that they are paid up front for services. Tip: When putting turtlenecks, crew necks, etc., on hangers, put the hanger through the bottom of the shirt, and pull the hook up through the neck. This prevents the neck being stretched out of shape. 😀

Horrible! I am very reserved and shun oversharers. Were you able to be compensated for the business aspect of the experience? Do you know if the narcissist/scammer was ever held accountable?

I'm pretty reserved as well and typically welcome oversharers especially in my line of work but the oversharers who don't allow you to speak or care to hear you participate in the conversation, I now understand is a big red flag. I was never compensated at all. I don't think anything happened to her or will.

I don't think this is appropriate or helpful, if you wanted to give advice to others regarding client relationships, don't be so specific in pointing out someone specific, that is for face to face confrontations, but for everyone else just generalize concerning what the client should not have done. This is a real person, would you like someone to put you out there like that? I wouldn't

@@juditheorganizer consider that person and put yourself in her shoes, I am sure other designer's appreciate the advice, just don't make her identity so obvious, it's unfortunate that people do these things, but let's be the better people and not call them out like that, or we might find ourselves in the same place. Totally disagree - it gives a concrete real-life example of how you can get into the web of a scammer. It also sounds like someone with unaddressed BPD. As someone who was burned by someone who lied about some truly horrible, heinous things because of an unaddressed mental health problem, I could see some similarities. Certainly not a unique enough situation that you could identify the woman.
