No colleague is my friend. I will be supportive, approachable and will greet you in the morning, but I'm not accepting any invitation after work. There is no favoritism, you will get the same amount of treatment and respect as everyone else.
@leighharwood916

Precisely, when people mix work and pleasure lines often become blurred as a consequence. For some bizarre and unfathomable reason - many of my co-workers assume that because I do not socialize with them outside of work - therefore I am some type of anti-social loner type who is awkward and non-approachable. They cannot seem to grasp the fact that some people prefer to remain independent with respect to keeping a private life. You go to work because you're getting paid to do a job. You're not getting paid to socialize and buddy up with co-workers. This distinction seems self-evident to me.

@@leighharwood916 yeah, you are absolutely right. Just because I'm reserved and more engaged with work doesn't mean I'm insecure or I have anything against my coworkers. When some coworkers try to engage with me, I just try to be polite and respond, but I try to cut the conversation short and get back to work. The last thing I want in the workplace is antagonism, so I do nice things for my coworkers like bake for them, and bring my freshly baked confections to the office.

I remember a colleague that was so nice to me at first. I would help her do some stuff. But she just changed suddenly. She began insulting me. Gossiping about me. Lying against me and snitching on me. She'd literally go to my boss and tell her shitty things about me. Each time my boss was warning me in her presence, this colleague would interfere. It was so annoying. I wanted to do a lot of things to her, to make her pay for all she was doing to me. But it's not her fault. I shouldn't have been too friendly with her to the extent of telling her about my partner, my career prospects, family etc. This girl's a backstabber and pretender. I just had to take all in till I left that place. Again, it's my fault; I extended an arm of friendship. Your colleague may not be your friend. Don't tell them so much cos they'll use it against you.

@@biancaihua5841 sorry to hear you went through all that. I hope you were able to recover and find yourself again. The only thing I regret when having those turn against me is being too patient. Just got to accept that people change and that's the way it goes, can't change them back to who they were, they are just going to go through phases.

Every job I’ve ever been on I make sure that I don’t get close to my coworkers or managers. Growing up my parents, grandparents, and family always told me, that when I get a job is to work only. Don’t make friends and don’t tell anyone my personal business. As a 29 yr old I still live by this. People at your job will use the information you gave them against you. They only want to know your business because they don’t have any of their own to attend (in reality their lives are shitty) and/or they based your information on how they’re going to treat you. Never go to work to make friends. People at my job say all kinds of crazy things about me because I choose not to smile and Keke haha in their faces. I careless about you guys, I’m just here to make my money.

She took full advantage of me until I cut that shit off cold turkey. She also was weirdly jealous of me losing more weight than her, even tho I had/have more weight to lose than her. Heffa got the audacity to freak off on me via text because I wasn’t able to add her on my Costco account and that was the last straw for me. I was no longer “stupid nice” for her.
