I week ago in my local area there was a 49 year old criminal that decided to rob a lady of her purse in the parking lot of a grocery store. When the lady put up a fight she was stabbed in the gut by the offender. A civilian came over to help her who was also stabbed by the man. Another citizen tried to help and was stabbed as well. The 4th person, who stopped the criminal has a CCP. He apprehended the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived. Which was a few minutes after the stabbings. Just imagine how many more people could have got hurt. Police cannot be in every place to stop violence. You need to have a strong community as well. This proves this 100%. The gun owner didn't even have to discharge his firearm. Why doesn't the MSM cover these stories?

The secomd amendment states that, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" Liberals remember the first half. Conservatives remember the second half. The people who are correct realize that this was written 200+ years ago and needs to be updated to a more modern definition.
@manintights26 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't The amendment's purpose was meant to be relevant at anytime, the logic of humanity doesn't change and this is what it was built upon. The amendment was made to ensure that the people of the united states, under their own power and OWN management could defend themselves against threats foreign and domestic. This includes the government itself. This amendment was made to keep the government from stripping the people of their ability to fight anything PERIOD. I fail to see how this needs to be "updated".

The words need changed when the logic and philosophy behind them is proved pointless. The logic behind them is as sound as ever, so no, the words on a page do not need changed. Until the ideas behind the amendment are proved wrong or outdated, the amendment isn't outdated. Last I checked, a government can turn on its people, people can hurt unarmed people easier that armed, We have a right to defend ourselves and out property. So until any of these are rendered akin to "marrying your cousins" I'll stand firmly behind an unchanging 2nd amendment, among others.

@Osman Oglu I'll disregard your homophobic remarks. However, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" is the wording of the second amendment. This law of having to get a license and the state picking and choosing who gets those licenses without regard that the petitioner may be of sound mind and still be denied is an infringement. So the actions that this criminal state sees as "legal" are actually illegal by the Constitution. It is not mandatory in every state to get a license. You must not be American so I will forgive the mistake. It is only mandatory in a handful. Every other State has refrained from treason. And since our judicial system is based on precedence then the fact that there are no Supreme Court cases on the matter makes the 2nd Amendment default.

Osman Oglu, we are allowed to carry a bladed weapon, but only if the blade is no wider than the width of the average person's palm. most nations do. and originally in the 13 colonies and states most cities outright banned them from usage. because when you give drunk people guns, and a fight happens, its not pretty. then the NRA came in and fucked everything up. because its the NRA. which is ironic because originally they were a group supporting common sense gun ownership, now?
@mackenzieowens1617 жыл бұрын
Most nations also don't have the American constitution forced to be recognized by the legislative process. Requiring some subjective "need" to exercise any right in our constitution is absolutely wrong as far as the constitution is concerned and considering that concealed carry license holders represent virtually no share of crime stats in any country, restricting that right is not only useless in fighting crime but hopefully something which we can outlaw in the supreme court soon.
@gordonsumner20857 жыл бұрын
It does not. Hence the positive constitutional RESTRICTION on the government (not the citizen) from "infringing" on the right to bear arms. The entire Bill of Rights is essentially a limit on governmental power, not a list of restrictions laid upon citizens.

@@Thekilleroftanks Well, since they are still a group that supports actual common sense gun ownership, I am not sure where your confusion about the NRA lies. If you are thinking that the left can somehow determine what "common sense gun ownership" is based on what they say is common sense, then you are sadly misguided. And originally, the ownership of weapons by the general population was due to the government (at that point in England) realizing that an unarmed population was easier to control than an armed one. That is sadly one history lesson that many governments learned but unfortunately, many citizens of many countries haven't learned, or at least seem to have forgotten.

SCOTUS has pretty much dodges every 2A case that comes its way. Justice Thomas even voiced his concerns about this. States know that they can implement unconstitutional policies, and simply change them before they get to the court so that the process can be repeated. NY did this with their ban on transporting weapons, and has made it impossible to even take a weapon somewhere to train.

There has been a few challenges, the SCOTUS is full of spineless people who don't want to upset the status quo. As someone else said there was a challenge where they temporarily changed the law to be more lax than it is, just so it wouldn't be taken up by the SCOTUS
