Once you buy your first fountain pen you may find that you have begun the decent down a large rabbit hole. But you will also find that you are not alone. What, then, do you do with all those fountain pens that are accumulating on your desk or various drawers around your home? Here's some basic suggestions to get you thinking of ways to store your precious fountain pens. The links below are to some of the resources mentioned in this video.

As soon as the video started, I thought I recognized that "stowage". LOL. What a great idea for that tool chest.

Yes, and who would know you could get it at Harbor Freight tool store.

I have that tool box. I have not yet organized my pens in it yet. I got mine at harbor freight. Great video.

Yep, got mine from HF too. It's a great box, but I can see that I might need another one before too long 😀

I put away my writing when you got to the tool chest! I use a similar storage solution. Right now, I'm working on shrinking my pen collection.

Once you go down that rabbit whole they sure accumulate fast, as finances allow. I've heard a few folks talking about whittling their inventory down. I guess after a while we get to the point where we become more discriminating with our pen purchases. That tool chest that I bought from Harbor Freight works great for me. I think, though, that I may need another one in the future, once a start back making my own pens again.

This box is fantastic! It looks like it will do everything I would need... but do you happen to have that link for the tray inserts you put into the drawers? I don't see it in the description...

Hi,....Great video.... I was just wondering if you could give me a link as I wish to purchase the acrylic bottle stand in the top drawer and also a link for the small bottles for putting into the stand? Thanks for the great channel👍

You can use the tubes that ink samples come in, but Gouletpens.com sells them empty as well: rb.gy/ln4zz You can also get the vile stand at GP: rb.gy/mrl55 or the one I have at Penchalet.com: rb.gy/007kb These are pretty common at science supply places, or perhaps check Amazon of Ebay to possibly buy them cheaper. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much. I will purchase them. I also bought a 2nd hand free standing jewelry armoire quiet reasonably as a non portable alternative with part of my watch collection hanging in the drawers on either side. Thanks once again for all the interesting videos.

Lol, you call yourself a pen man with that tiny little storage box? I bought a whole house just for my pens.

So, you're pen rich, cash poor? :D Yes, for some my collection probably does look a bit meager, but you have to start somewhere, right? I do envy those who seem to be able to buy pretty much any pen they want when they want. The rabbit whole keeps pulling stronger and stronger. There's an individual on one of the FB pages that seems to be flashing a new, and very expensive pen, every other day it seems. Don't know how they do it, but more power to them. My collection is growing, but is subject to budgetary constraints that a family man typically has. On a positive note, while most of my family and friends do not appreciate my joy of fountain pens, and how much I love them, thus contributing to my collection via gift cards and gifting me nice pens, my son did get me a Pilot Decimo for Father's Day this year. There is hope yet. Then there's this, a REAL pen man can make his own pens - whah, ah, ahhhh.! Have a good one Ken, and enjoy that house full of pens. It would be cool to see some of your collection. Do you have a channel?

@@thepenman357 no, I’m pen rich and filthy rich. Lol, I was kidding man. I’m sorry I have to disappoint you now. But, to redeem myself, I did get sucked in that rabbit hole lately and bought a lot of stationery, though I am not sure that’s how I want to “redeem” myself. I acquired a couple of Visconti’s and a lot of paper. In my case, it’s a combination of having a good job and keeping an eye out for discounts. That’s how I always try to buy “luxury” items: that makes them slightly less overpriced (but overpriced nonetheless). I always loved fountain pens and what not, and my love of them led me to my career choices, which in turn enabled me to afford them, ironically. Back then, I had to make do with a Parker Urban. In the end, most higher-end pens are for show. Sure, generally speaking, their nibs are smoother, but you’re mostly paying for materials and brand name. They are rarely as much better as the lower priced pens as their price difference would suggest. Then again, that’s true for everything. Which is why what really matters is your love for pens and penmanship: and when your son gifted you that pen, I bet what really mattered was that your son gifted it to you. (Though it’s good he chose wisely lol!) So don’t worry about it, and thank you for the video! I can’t make my own pens, alas, and I don’t have a channel. I’m not sure I want to dedicate my time to that: while I love collecting, and I do love the pens themselves, I see them as a tool. I want to write with them and use them according to setting: some for my language learning, some for work, and others, hopefully, for my real writing endeavors. I’m really trying to find time for that and, as I’m sure you’ll agree, that’s even more scarce than money!

@@kencur9690 Cool that you're not penning yourself broke, as I've heard others say what was happening to them. I've been able to go to a couple of pen shows to "test drive" some very nice pens, my "high-ends" are currently limited to my P. Custom 823, Diplomats, and W. Carene. I would like to eventually acquire a MB 146, and a Pelikan M800/805 (my current grails). I appreciate what you said about the writing pleasure of expensive and inexpensive pens, that they can be similar in some cases. I've heard it said that fountain pens are merely "nib sticks," so go for a nice nib first and foremost. That said, there are some very nicely made nib sticks out there that I wouldn't mind getting into my slowly growing collection. What would you say is your prized "nib stick"? And what would you say is your prized writing nib?

@@thepenman357 oh don’t get me wrong: I am just as easily swayed by a good aesthetic. Those are some nice pens you have: I especially like the Carène. I have none of those: I have no Pilot (perhaps a cheap gel pen lying around - they do write nicely though), no Diplomat (planning to get one) and I have a Waterman Hemisphere. The Carène is in my sights. I’m also planning on getting an MB (who isn’t?) though I am still unsure as to whether it will be the 146 or the 149. I wanted the 149 at first, then decided the 146 would fit me better, and now I’m back to rethinking it. Perhaps I’ll get both. Some pens I consider really nice are the Visconti’s I got (they have these tribute to artists line with some beautiful pens, and, of course, the Homo sapiens). I also like the MB Le Petit Prince line, and I’m looking at some Conway Stewarts. As for nibs, I don’t know: it’s such a tricky question with so many variables. The paper and ink combination is just as important: truth be told I have not yet found the ideal nib. Perhaps it will be on the Visconti or on the Montblanc!
