Thank you for the clarification. Jesus did not come to disregard the ceremonial laws, but to fulfill the laws . The purpose to fulfill the ‘old’ laws is reveal the meanings for a deeper relationship with our ‘Heavenly Father ‘ . Thank you 🙏🏾

I liked the document from the PBC titled The Jewish People and their Writings in the Christian Bible (or words to that effect). But, That document was only intended as an introduction. Do you suppose they have any intellectual momentum for developing it further? What parts of the OT should Catholics pay attention to? I just seem never to hear any homilies expounding the wisdom of the Old Testament. Even PhD level priests just rather dismiss it, except for the most obvious Christological aspects. And, the problem is, even the writings of the New Testament seem to stress the importance of knowing the Old Testament.

Thank you Dr Bergsma. I have a question about the multiple names for God and monotheism. If the word "Elohim" is pluralistic and Moses saw the back of God and took 70elders with him to eat with God are we talking about two different "beings"? OT refers to the Omnipotent God and also the "beings" and "the Lord" and "YHWH". Were the original Jews binitarian? Bishop Eusebius in his writings contends that the "being" that Moses saw and ate with was in fact the second person of the Trinity, who is later manifested in Christ.

God is three persons, so you can refer to him as though he is multiple people. He does not change forms, but rather each person of the Trinity is distinct yet one.

No. The ceremonial laws were fulfilled in Jesus (as Dr. Bergsma states in the video 8:51) and therefore we are not bound to follow. It is the moral laws that we are required to continue following.

Hebrew Catholics may celebrate Passover, Rosh Hashana, Shavuot, etc. and are allowed to wear traditional ritual wear like kippot, tallitot, tefillin, use mezuzot and keep many mitsvot (commandments) in the Torah as a sign of their heritage. Fr David Neuhaus, patriarchal vicar for Hebrew-speaking Catholics in Jerusalem and himself a Jew by birth, declared in 2008 that "Dietary laws are not obligatory for those who live in Christ. I would only understand dietary laws being observed by Jewish Hebrew Catholics if they had always practised these laws before becoming Catholic. It certainly does no harm. But adopting the laws as Catholics (or as secular Jews who have become Catholic) does not make much sense as we have the fullness of the promise in Jesus." Someone who was Hindu, Buddhist or Muslim would not be allowed the same privilege because Catholicism has its roots in Judaism, it is the fulfilment of Judaism.
