I played that Guarneri for about 2 minutes when Elizabeth Pitcairn (and her "Red Mendelssohn" Strad) visited with the Southern California Association of Violin Makers several years ago. I hoped to get to the Strad, but the allowed time was up by then. Thank you, Dr. Sloan, for your guardianship of these two gems of the luthier's craft!

I, too, was lucky to be able to briefly play the Jackson Strad when Doc Sloan brought it to one of our violin makers meetings. Thank you Cristian for this video, the interview with Doc Sloan and mostly your wonderful playing demonstrating the two!

That is a good presentation between Strad and Guarneri. Sond difference is obvious - Strad being much lighter and brighter in tone, Guarneri is full and fatter without those crisp higher tones.

This Jackson strad has a top that is under 2mm in most places, due to having wood removed by folks other than Strad's original build. Who knows why. But my guess is that its original sound was a bit "beefier".

Nicolo AMATI is the pionner of perfect violin sound ! but its a Sweet and Shy sound !!!! STRADIVARI and GUARNERI adapted perfection with power of.projection and regulatity in all frequency !

Guarneri revoluciono el sonido , il canone seria como una guitarra jackson o gibson de ahora dando un sonido diferente para la época eso lo hacer ser el mejor violín de todo los tiempos!!!

These violins have been heavily modified and tampered (Baroque neck removal, re-graduated top and bottom plates, replacement of the original short bass bar with larger modern type, etc) by arrogant violin technicians over the past 2-plus centuries. Therefore, the sound doesn't sound or project like the original sound that was made by these master violin makers.

...your point being?
@nancymilawski1048 Жыл бұрын
@@CristianFatu his point is that they are very different from when they were first built. While the neck could be put back to the baroque length you can't make the wood thicker. You could replace the top completely by maybe finding some old trees somewhere that have tight grain. I believe some luthiers would make baroque style instruments but I don't know if the measurements are available for top thicknesses originally. I believe there is at least one strad on a museum thst has the original length neck. It might have the original top and back too.
