also 99% of ppl do their sa pull downs all the way so their hands touch or go over their hips, meaning they enter into shoulder extension when all you lookin for is scapular depresion meaning your hands will never end near your hips or else you are moving away from that scapular depression function you are lookin in SA PDs.

@@georgerr335 the lats main function is shoulder extension isn't it? Why would it not be a good idea to do so? It would be a peak contraction instead of a loaded stretch but it can still yield hypertrophy

The more contracted a muscle is, the more myacin heads are able to bind to actin making it easier but when you stretch the muscle then only the tips of the myacin heads can bind to the actin making them tear easier causing microtears, breaking down those sarcomeres and building bigger muscle fibers

This might sound stupid or maybe you already do this....I just concentrate completely on the lats doing all the work...the arms are just connecting point for your lats to the bar....I don't wrap my hand around the bar either...because when I do I feel like I'm using my arms to pull it down. Even with lats pull downs I put my thumb over the bar with my fingers and just think of them as hooks and concentrating totally on the lats pulling the weight...mind to muscle is a beautiful thing.

@sk8rfromGA

If you do, it means you're doing a decent job at it. The triceps help when you resist the urge to curl your biceps while pulling, especially as the upper arm starts coming in line with or behind the torso midline.

@@sk8rfromGA Thanks. I just felt like I might be pulling it towards me wrong but I guess not. I don’t feel an extreme amount of it in my triceps but when I start kind of going to failure, part of what gives out is my tricep as well as a bit of my lats so was slightly concerned.
