Thank you for this video. When I was in my teens, I ate anything I wanted, but couldn't gain weight and looked like a pipe cleaner. The doctor simply recommended I eat pasta and breads. At 17 years-old, I weighed 135 lbs when I left for Marine Corps boot camp. Today I'm in my fifties and can't seem to lose my spare tire. Times have certainly changed. I want to stick with a more ketogenic diet, but my Vietnamese wife insists I'll die if I don't eat rice.

Jason Fung, Thomas Delauer, Dr. Berg got me on the keto wagon 6 years ago. Yes I lost weight, and sure there is a lot of truth regarding autophagy, longevity and so on, but it is near impossible to put on muscle and carbs are just plain great. I was on keto for 5 years, but I wasn’t enjoying what I was eating and my gains in the gym were pathetic. Then I start eating carbs again and boy, in one year I’ve gained muscle, lost fat and haven’t felt deprived for cutting out any macros. I eat healthy though. So ketos good but u can only do it for so long before losing your sanity. Just my two cents

I have been extreme zero carb(carnivore for about 2 years), and keto for about a year after that. I lost a lost of weight(40 lbs)but my gym performance plateaued fairly quickly - after about 6 months. It didn't seem to matter how much of a caloric surplus I was in, muscle gains and strength slowed waaaaay down. Another weird thing that I never got used to was that while 100% carnivore, I could never get a pump in the gym. After a couple years of that, I reintroduced carbs into my diet, including starches and sugars from fruit. Oh my gosh - almost overnight, I started piling on the weight, and my strength went thru the roof. I'm a 55 year old male, and my strength was close to what it was like in my 30s. Plus, the crazy pump returned as well. .... but along with my strength and muscle gains, many of my health issues started returning - skin issues, gut issues, hi blood pressure, and of course high blood sugar. My depression also started returning. Not good. What I did next kind of combined the two diets, plus I added intermittent fasting to my regime. Today, I eat similar to a Dr Berg clean keto diet, but my total carb intake is between 40-80 grams/day. I try to keep my total sugars around 20mg or less. I do a 16:8 IF feeding window 3-5 days/week. And then I do a 48-72 hour fast about once every month. I am so pleased with this setup as not only is it something that I can easily do on a daily basis, but my gym performance and my health measures(both physical and mental). My blood work is kick ass - lipids as well as glucose and A1C. Fasting + low-to-moderate carb consumption has been the winning ticket for me. I am reporting my experience based on the past 3+ years of dieting, very active fitness, and medical successes. I'm off all meds(except antidepressant) and my health stats are excellent. Honestly, I feel better than I did in my 30s. I need to say something that may ruffle some feathers here:. Carnivore and Keto diets were pivotal in me regaining my health. But after the weight loss and return to insulin sensitivity, Carnivore started presenting new, different issues. The switch to Keto helped with this - primarily in getting my gut back in shape. The final key to success for me was in practicing intermittent fasting, and bumping up my carbs just a little bit. For what it's worth, I consume most of my carbs after a gym workout. The other 1-2 meals are almost exclusively fat and protein. Also, I do not snack between meals. I was never able to add muscle on strict Carnivore. I was able to lose weight like crazy, but true lean mass gain became near impossible. This was reflected not only by my gym performance, but by 8 body scans over the period of 36 months.

Jerry, absolutely love your program! On the topic of excessive protein not contributing to increased adipose tissue increases, I speculate that perhaps the reason lies in the digestion of the protein. Would it not be a reasonable conclusion that the body cannot process and therefore store that which it does not digest?

Being a lover of all types of food and eating as well as an athlete it did the trick. No matter a snack or a massive meal, just keep the proportions of Carbs,protein and fat on track and voilà. Even now at 65yo still extremely physically active but of course consuming more supplements to help with inflammation and yes under a Dr. supervision for testosterone replacement therapy. Couldn’t be happier as long as I can stay free of injuries!

And every one forgets, that when we eat high protein and low Carbohydrates we stay in a fat burning cycle , every time you put too many carbohydrates in are body , all burning fat comes too an end, all the body can do now is call out Insulin and the body hole gig now is too store the Glycegen into stored fat, if not burning it, so it makes sense if you want to lose weight as rapidly as possible, stay on high protein low carbs so the body stays burning fat instead of trying to utilize all the carbs and what's not burned, is stored too fat, when you get up in the morning after you go to sleep for 8 hours, the body wakes up in fat burning mode, we ruin that process every time carbohydrates load happens, have a great day.

@@Hedgeflexlfz It's pretty obvious. First of all there would be a great difference in body composition. The guy eating oats would have much more muscle as he is eating more protein, making him burn more calories. Also, calories in calories out is not entirely accurate. Most people say 1 g of fiber is 4 calories yet the body can't break it down 100% as it lacks the digestive enzymes. Protein is also special as it can't convert to fat. Yep you read that right (PROTEIN CAN NOT BE CONVERTED TO FAT). Atleat in non-extreme circumstances.
@brianbadonde8700
@brianbadonde8700 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not so sure about that, the oats is much better from a nutritional point of view but I don't think there would be any difference in appearance, the insulin response from snickers bars would be lower than straight sugar because of the fat content from the nuts, if you said 3000 calories from a healthy balanced diet v 3000 snickers calories I'd agree

@@user-vd7gn4bx1t Protein can certainly be stored as fat. It contains calories (energy), if it is part of a calorie surplus the calories (energy) have to go somewhere, it just doesn't disappear. Excess protein gets converted to glucose via gluconeogenesis and stored as body fat

That's why we have a whole field of science to study metabolism. If calories were just "calor" AKA heat and the body was a furnace with only combustion and one output in the form of heat, then we wouldn't need to study metabolism. Also, it may be easier to gain fat with high fat, even with a ketogenic diet for a given amount of fat and calories contant. But, if you are eating high protein to limit hunger and maintain muscle, along with strength training, and your blood sugar is low due to eating fat instead of carbohydrates, then the glucose will be low enough to oxidize the body fat you do have. And, if you are in a calorie deficit it will metabolize more body body fat. I believe this is the opposite of what was thought with the Randal Cycle. But, if you think about it, the body wants to burn glucose first, which I think we knew. Only alcohol is prioritized before that. At least this is my understanding of the top of my head and what I heard.

Not that I can find any studies on this, very strange as it's the most important factor in shredding, so I have to go on my own experience. If you change high energy carbohydrate to low energy carbohydrate so same volume but lower energy, your metabolism increases. Over time when you lose fat or muscle your metabolism decreases. Your energy levels do decrease as you have less energy in and a lot of your energy is put into extra digestion workload, which has to be factored in, like stimulants help, but you have to force yourself to keep up activity. Thinking probably best just to use stimulants when shredding, so they are effective. As long as you aren't nutritionally deficient there won't be any hunger, the excess workload and stimulants might stop grelin all together as it has with me, which could be a negative on HGH. all other ways of shredding to me seem so redundant

These athletes are anomalies as they for all purposes they over train, over use but their legs are just insane in some cases especially the ones that are considered sprinters, their legs are just huge, one of the most impressive legs less Tom platzs is a cyclist and his upper body is quite impressive and there athletes are some of best studied, taken car of in just about every way so let’s not call out a group of professional athletes with out knowing the whole story.
