I have already done that last year , plus I have also added an external vacuum pump with a little remote. So now I can choose to have the valves on/off at my finger tips.

You're not getting a "Straight Pipe" by bypassing the valve, Straight pipe is removing the cats either with test pipes exhaust that removes the cats from the exhaust.

I cut the same vacuum line about midway down and installed a simple brass petcock inline with the vacuum line. Prior to attaching the petcock to the center grill, I knocked the small retaining pin for the handle out and removed the handle from the petcock. I then used black tie wraps around the vacuum line above and below the petcock to retain it to the grill mesh. I just use the very small handle to turn the valve - horizontal closes the vacuum to the valves (loud - valves inactive) and vertical allows vacuum and the valves are active according to speed (about 70mph, where the active spoiler also rises). This only works when first starting the car, so If I open the petcock to quiet the exhaust and then close it, the system still retains the vacuum in the line and will operate as normal. I have to shut the car off and open the line to free the vacuum on the valves and then close it again prior to starting the car. I have a valved Kline exhaust and my 2004 Gallardo literally sounds like an F1 car at high RPM's. So needless to say, I run it open exhaust most of the time.

@@TheBullRider I do. Icon exhaust. $500 option. Fits in the Cig Lighter and Bluetooths to the valve. I don't ever use it as it opens about 3K RPM any way, so I can sneak out of the neighborhood relatively quietly. I can't imagine having it open all the time.

Why are 2006-2008 different than the 2004-2005? I tried to do this and you are right there is not much difference in the sound.

Jacob, with the 06-08, this mod completely bypasses the muffler. But on the 04-05, the valves are after the muffler and they don't really do much at all other than regulating backpressure. The best mod for the earlier cars is to get a 06-08 muffler for very little money. That way you get the increased noise, and if you want to do this mod, a straight pipe!

Taylor, that is exactly right. On the 04-05, it doesn't bypass the muffler but on the 06-08 it completely bypasses it. And yes it does go through the cats still, maybe a bit of a white lie on my part, unless you have no cats! LOL

Did anyone really figure out why the Pre-LPs with straight pipes/aftermarket pipes generate a CEL? I've heard some aftermarket suppliers say their pipes don't, but that doesn't seem to apply for the 08 SL, which AFAIK always gets an CEL, even with O2 sensor extensions or other common remedies. This would be a very interesting topic to have a deep dive into. :-)

Tanel, what's funny about all this is I've had test pipes on my SL for like 8 months now and no codes EVER! LOL No 02 extenders, none of those tricks. The problem with doing a video like that is these ECUs are so damn unpredictable. Part of their charm I suppose.

@@TheBullRider Oh yeah? Interesting. Have your exhaust valves worked as stock during that time? If so, maybe it's exhaust valve related more than cat related. But yeah, the ECUs are def. full of character. 😁

@@tanelrebane Yeah they have worked as stock during that time. I noted in the video that with this mod you might get a check engine code. These cars ECUs are a bit sensitive to to backpressure from atleast what I read.

Because to "Straight Pipe" a car you're removing the rear catalytic converters and the car thinks something is wrong.

@@trevorgennings5349 No problem. There is only one line to plug that feeds both sides. I reccomend the spot I showed you in the video but you could also plug it up a bit higher before the hardline near the coolant resovior.
