One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard was “You can go down a hill too slow as many times as you want. You can only go down a hill too fast, once.” Great video man.

True words. I’ve come off a strip job down a dozer road loaded with 40 ton of blue gem coal and started to rain, I had my door open in 2nd full Jake. I was in a 75’ DM800 Mack. That was the day I learned it wasn’t all fun and showing off, you can get killed real quick.

Sure is! Might not be the best scenery in the country, but I can't really complain much about my home state. If you're not a truck driver, have no interest in becoming a truck driver, and think there's nothing you could possibly learn form a video like this... You can always learn that truck drivers do things for a reason. If you're annoyed at the big rig going too slow in front of you remember that truckers are the life blood of commerce and without them the economy collapses. They're trying to be safe (some of them anyway) so cool your jets. You'll get around when you get around.

When I drove down the Malahat, I would turn the A/C on and shift into 3rd. The entire way down, I would only have to lightly tap the brake once. So it definitely works!

One of the scariest roads I ever drove a heavy truck on was the road from Ioannina to Igoumeitsa in Greece..fearsome steep that goes on forever coming down a mountain with a number of double bends and traffic travelling uphill with hardly any room to spare. All loaded trucks are doing 15mph max, so little airflow to the brakes. A very busy road at night, even more dangerous..nice to see how you cope with things in the US, and the big difference in vehicles compared to Europe. Regards

We go to South Dakota for vacation every other year and when we go up and down in the hills my parents always told me just to drop the vehicle down a few gears, we have a expedition with the middle column shifter so it’s easy to down shift. My dad got a new exhaust with turbo tubes in his 1996 Chevy truck so I want to take it up there so when you go down a hill I can downshift a gear and let the exhaust crackle😂😂. There’s got a reason why most mechanic shops up there only specialize in brakes😂

Best feeling is going down a hill down a gear or two and being slower than the crossover riding their brakes the entire way down.

@@amerahstevens5864 exactly like the video explained. Use as much retarding force as possible without using your primary brakes. Anticipate going into that steep grade. I'm not a trucker by trade. Just listened to the things that my father used to say. I'm a railroader so I can kinda see the theory. We use dynamic brakes and the engineer will KNOW his territory and will anticipate hills/curves etc. Know the condition of your equipment and its limitations.

I've been a trucker for decades. I've driven some loud trucks. I find Detroits to make the most noise. Two things I hate, loud motorcycles and loud tractor trailers. But your Pete is incredible and doesn't sound annoying. It's got a sweet roar to it.

Thanks for not only rolling with the windows down, but reminding me of home with that beautiful view of the reservoir on 322 there! I thought I recognized that sign at the beginning and the curve with all the scratches on the center barrier, then you said 322 in PA and I was like yep, I know exactly where he is! Being in the army I don't get to go home super often and seeing those beautiful fall trees going down the mountain towards Milroy reminds me of every time I leave State College after skiing at Tussey Mountain and head back home to Lewistown. Also that big RV dealership to your left, Lerch RV, great place to buy a camper if you're interested. Don't even have to be from Central PA. I used to work there and we've had people from North Carolina order a pop-up from there just because the prices are so good
