Straightening Trees Using A Handheld Pull Winch

Earlier this year we were battered by some big storms and a few of the trees that the previous owners had planted were rocked and pushed out of place.

So was the come along used to pull the tree vertical slowly over time, or was it straightened all at once then attached to ratchet straps? Was there any soil/ root ball prep? Much appreciated!

It takes a lot of confidence to yank the tree back and have faith that the pull winch will do its job. At least the video was calming 😂

I did a similar thing to a 7 year old maple tree but I used 3 in ground vortex stakes and 3 smaller ratchet straps. Can I ask how long you kept the straps under tension? I'm concerned that the little maple has about 500 lbs of tension on its 5 inch diameter trunk.

Trees were poorly planted by previous owner and were pushed over by windy storms. Full story here: myhomefarm.co.uk/how-to-straighten-trees The ratchet straps will now hold the tree upright for the next two years and hopefully the roots set in that time.

Did you do anything with the dirt before or after you straightened it? Was there any digging or backfilling required?
