Ugh! I am so sorry to hear about hotels.com canceling on you. I am a travel agent and refuse to use them because they are a consolidator and are the first ones a hotel cancels on. There is availability at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport and the train runs directly from the hotel in to downtown. I know its not ideal, but it is a great hotel and could work.

Ohhh noooo! Bummer!!! I know a lady who is a manager of housekeeping at a nice hotel and she said that those who travel a lot should always carry mitten warmers in their luggage. You pull the sheet back and lay the warmer on the mattress. Go to dinner or step out and I guess bed bugs are attracted to the heat and you will be able to see them. Ewww. A good tip though. Hope the rest of your trip is awesome.

Hope you guys found a place to stay tonight, Vancouver is always tough to get last minute accommodations especially downtown. Highly recommend getting an Airbnb in kitsalano, neighborhood on the edge of downtown and still close to beaches. If not, you can always stay in a hotel in Burnaby, only 20mins on the sky train to downtown. Have fun exploring the city! Make sure to check out Granville island, rent bikes to bike around the sea wall and Stanley park, and hike in Lynn canyon park in north Vancouver, there’s also a good donut place close to there. ,

Like I said in yesterday’s video, try Coal Harbor, North Van, Granville Island, or even a Richmond for hotels. They’re all close enough to downtown & should have ocean views. I love Vancouver. You should really stay & explore the area. It’s truly beautiful. Lots of great Parks & Beaches. Spanish Bay, Crescent Beach, Stanley Park, Granville Island, and so much more to see there. I wish I was there to give you both a tour. Sorry things didn’t go so well with the hotel. The Pinnacle is a nice hotel too. Too bad that protest was happening! Ugh☹️ Yeah,hotels in Vancouver,especially downtown,are not cheap lol I really hope you are able to enjoy your trip. Remember, this was just a little bump. Everything else will go smooth as butter...hoping🙏 Can’t wait to see the rest of your adventures😉👍

I hope you enjoy Victoria! It’s a BEAUTIFUL city. I lived there for a year in university. Some great places to check out are: Mount Doug Viewpoint, Ogden Point Breakwater (my personal fav), BC Legislature building and the front lawns, there’s also a harbour front really close to the legislature. If you’re venturing a bit away from downtown, Royal Roads University has beautiful gardens and a castle on the property, and Butchartt Gardens are world famous gardens you could spend a whole day in (if you like gardens) Sending you good vibes! I am a Canadian and I find the absolute best way to find a place is to call the hotel directly. I have had poor experiences with bookings.com and others. Have arrived to find the booking had not been made. I know how you feel. Good luck.

I'm sorry this has happened to you Vancouver hotels are usually jammed packed without a strike or issues never mind having strikes which cause a bunch to close and many events taking place. Downtown Van is a very hard place to get a place to stay. The cleaning staff obviously didn't do a very good job cleaning to have a bee in the bed! Oi stay safe and I truly hope that the trip gets better from here on out.

That is horrible! I am so sorry. I usually avoid discount sites for this exact reason. And we totally had something similar happen just a few weeks ago. Right as we arrived at the salt lake airport, we got word that our Disney Cruise had been cancelled due to the hurricane 😱😭 I spent 90+ minutes on the phone getting all the reservations switched around for everyone. It was crazy!!

My husband and I got to a much anticipated trip to Fort Lauderdale which was a gift from our kids for my 50th Birthday, we went to National rental car to pick up our car and they had lost our reservation (I had the confirmation on my phone) it was pretty late at night so they had very few staff working and said no cars available. We headed over to Hertz and we’re finally able to get into a car way past midnight and during this process I began worrying that we had lost our beach front hotel due to being so late which luckily ended up still available but boy was that stressful! Hope it all works out for you and the rest of your trip is smooth sailing!

It's incredibly difficult to find accommodation in Vancouver, Canada anytime of the year. It's a very desirable place to visit. I live 3 hours from Vancouver and reserve through Booking.com 3 months in advance. And sadly, it is incredibly expensive! Delta Hotels by Marriot in Burnaby is central but you need a car to get around. Metrotown Holiday Inn express has the skytrain attached to it to help you get around. If you must stay downtown our favorite is the Metropolitan. It's clean comfortable and reasonably priced. There's a couple Air B&B in Tsawwassen we have stayed at that I highly recommend and under $200 for your own unit. But again you need a car to get around. Enjoy your stay!!!!

Hotels and most airlines overbook. Customers who use third party agents,or websites, are usually the first to get cancelled. They often have “bulk” tickets or consolidator rooms and and they are reluctant to service their customers but because they own the ticket or contract the hotel or airline is often unable to help. Major Catch-22. Having worked for a major hotel chain and work for an airline, book directly with them and join the loyalty program. I hope the rest of your trip goes smoother.

As someone who worked in hotels for four years and still works with hotels, DO NOT USE THIRD PARTY WEBSITES. You pay more through third parties, their customer service is terrible, and hotels are more likely to work with you if something comes up and you need to move things around or need to cancel or something doesn’t go as planned. For bedbugs, check the seams of the bed skirts, headboards, baseboards of the carpets, and the mattress itself.
