If a cop gives you a lawful command to assist in an arrest, you are given the same authority that the cop has. You are essentially a temporary cop. It is 100% legal as long as you do not do anything illegal yourself. They can also arrest you if you do not have permission. You still wouldnt get in actual trouble most likely.

Just want to confirm, YES civilians are allowed to help a cop that's struggling with someone who is resisting arrest or detention. There may be some jurisdictions where that's not true, but in general it is.

I’ve seen cops arrest people for trying to help in bodycam videos so either it’s illegal there or they are just tyrants. Both are equally as believable so who knows.

lmao exactly. She didnt want the suspect to get into the car. She has a warrant and committed burglary (to her knowledge i think?) So why in the hell would she just let her go into the car, you dont know whats in there. Her safety is nr1 prio. The cop would've 100% gotten shot. Whatever force she needed to use to get her away is the right ammount and not "ExCeSsIvE uSe Of FoRcE", ugh, people, I swear.

@@Reis-san at that point she knew she was a homicide suspect, which just makes it even more justified. It would be excessive force if it was just a regular traffic stop or something, but she's literally a suspected killer trying flee the country. If she needed help from a civilian, she's clearly only using the bare minimum force to keep her still.

This cop had more cause to outright detain this lady and cops also place people in their vehicles for even less reasons than her too. Like, pig said, just be like "oh you're cold? Here I'll turn the heat on have a seat while I talk on the phone" I feel like that wouldve diffused the situation right away.

When I wrecked last year, it was like 1 AM and barley any traffic at all but all of a sudden out of nowhere 3 to 4 guys in trucks just pulled up next to me asking if I need any sort of towe or help with it. 2 of them blocked off the road for me until police finally showed up and we're able to get a real towe truck out there because the wheel/axel was totally broken.

That's what I was thinking. I was out with my family one night when a guy T-boned us and totaled our car. We were fine, but it was a chilly night and one of the cops on the scene let my mom and I sit in the car with heat on (we kept the doors open a crack obvi). That would've been a great lure here.
