You understand your material and target audience, and consistently maintain your discussions at that level. For those that are not professional trainers; it is VERY difficult to train technical subjects without level jumps and slipping into using technical jargon without explanations. On the last point about the high pitched sound that the A320’s vents make, I think it’s similar to the whistle P-51 Mustangs make when they’re doing acrobatics. Apparently, the whistling comes from air moving over the gun ports during certain angles of attack.

Hello Mentour, great video as usual. One thing that wasn't covered which could worry some nervous flyers is why the engine noise, particularly in front of the engines, changes from a whine or roar into more of a 'Buzzsaw' at high power (such as takeoff and climb). Petter, I have one little issue, as you talked about the PTU. You used an old Hydraulics Chart for the A320, and most people won't even understand, why I'm so triggered. Airbus decided to move NWS from HYD G to HYD Y, to keep it operational, if you need to gravity extend the gear. Seems after all too many A320 had to be towed off the RWYs after such a maneuver to justify a recertification. And you were right, you had one thing in your video, which really surprised me, which actually was the fuel tank pressure valves and the blowing over a bottle whistle-effect. Great video, good work, and for not having a type rating on an A320 really well prepared and explained.

I love the bark of the A320s blue line electric hydraulic pump to ptu unit. Nothing to worry about, and If you bark right back at it, it will stop. The barking is usually due to moving flaps, slats and the baggage hold doors being open or closed. Those doors are hydraulically open and shut.

Hey Mentour Pilot, great video! I'm sure you're too busy to read all comments but thought I'd mention there's another distinctive sound that the Airbus A320 family makes and it happens in that clip at 14:00, and at the same time as the other sound you're talking about. It's that sort of 'howling, whoosh' sound that decreases in pitch momentarily, and often you'll hear it go back up again eventually. I'm pretty sure that is the sound of the speed brakes being applied to control the airspeed while descending, it's only heard while the aircraft is in decent. It's a very distinctive sound. I've also been on an A320 and seen the speed brakes applied in flight and it made that exact sound. The more speed brake applied, the deeper the sound. Of course, I could be wrong but I'm almost certain that is what it is. I'm sure you're already aware of this sound and what it is. But I was fascinated by your explanation of that high pitched whining, whistling sort of sound that's also very distinctive to the A320 family, I never quite knew what it was until now. I've heard these sounds for many years while growing up near one of the Heathrow stacking points and have always loved them. Also, love the little captions from the dog with the Airbus 'barking' sounds. Thanks for the fascinating content!

I've watched this video a couple of times and I finally realized at 2:18 that the noise coming from the Airbus a320 sounds just like your theme song. It is uncanny how similar the two are.

The first time I heard the “barking dog” it really unnerved me, I thought there was a problem with the plane. However, when I returned home I googled it and found out what the noise was. The next flight I managed to reassure some nervous passengers that all was fine.

I would freak out too :o great to know it just means the plane is doing its job correctly!

Stephanie It’s awful sitting through a plane journey when you can’t relax because you don’t know if something is wrong. I’ve found that watching videos of pilots explaining various noises and movements( especially turbulence) has taken much of my fear away. So long as it’s not too bad, I can actually enjoy a bit of a bumpy flight. Last December I flew home on a very windy afternoon, there was plenty of wobbling about and a few shouts from passengers but I just sat there calm.😁

Have you seen Noel Philips video about flying in new Embraer? It makes weird whale howling noises upon taxing

@@linzbarber :D that's great to hear!! mm I am still pretty nervous just because of the amount of accidents lately..but as he said, I guess the media blow these incidents up a lot.. watching aircrash investigation years ago was what started scaring me!

What is the quickly decreasing tone at 14:00-14:03? Is the plane decelerating so quickly that it is doppler effect? Or some atmospheric effect involving moist and dry air?
@MentourPilot4 жыл бұрын
Probably the latter
@MartinNeep4 жыл бұрын
retepaskab it’s the speedbrakes being extended. It’s actually very noticeable sitting in the back of the aircraft and it’s similar to the BAe/Avro flap howl.

I'm pretty sure it's the doppler. First the aircraft is approaching you, the tone is higher. Then it flies by, the distance doesn't change much, the tone is natural. Then it's receding, the tone is lowered. Aircrafts are fast, so doppler effect is strong.

In Hamburg, Germany, you can hear that sound often when an Airbus does a touch and go at Hamburg airport after a test/delivery flight and then climbs again over the city before returning to the airbus site (XFW)

actually, I misunderstood the question, I was referring to the sound that lasts through the whole clip, up to 14:17. I don't have any hypothesis for the short sound..

I used to be a highly-nervous flyer and was frightened when I heard that noise. I managed to fix myself and happy to say that I'm not afraid of flying at all now. Interesting to know what the noise was now!

I am a bit of a nervous flyer, so your videos are really great for me to understand what is going on! I used to be really afraid of flying when I was a kid (afraid of heights combined with travel sickness), but once I got on a 'testflight' for firsttime flyers it has been a lot better. (Little cityhopper going from Amsterdam to Zurich and back). Yeah sure, I still get nauseous when hit with bad turbulence and if I am not able to see an horizon when the plane takes a turn... but at least I can sit back and be comfortable most of the time.

I’ve learned from living under the flight path into Stansted that A320s whistle, 747s screech demonically, and bigger planes sound deeper in general (idk if all this is true, it’s just what I hear)
