(SPOILERS) Kaz has survived a traumatic experience in which he was burried in dead bodies and had to hold onto his dead brothers body in the water for multiple hours to get back to shore. Since then he gets flashbacks, throws up and faints from skin to skin contact. Inej herself used to have issues with touches in general herself, because of her time in the menagerie. Maybe at the time where shadow and bones takes place she still does.
