Ralph Fiennes' character Lenny does a bit of audience profiling for his channel... closing the sale with a good old fashioned product demonstration. "Virgin Brain" character Steve has permission to ask all the dumb questions, thereby giving the audience vital story information in a comparatively short amount of time.

This is one of the most incredible and brilliant movies I've ever seen. Kathryn Bigelow's triumphant achievement, in my view. Ralph Fiennes should've gotten an Oscar for this performance, same as Angela Bassett. This scene is perfectly superb.

Oh how I love this scene. Any reasonably well trained Shakespearean actor can speak his glorious poetry well. But it takes a real pro to make a line as ridiculous as "I'm the Santa Claus of the subconscious" work. Ralph, you're a true badass. 😊❤❤

I read a critique once about the dialogue being a bit too "polished" for a movie of this nature. And it does show up in spots

My parents rented this from Blockbuster Video as soon as it came to home release. I was 12, so they wouldn’t let me watch it. Was able to sneak the tape into my bedroom while they had a date night, and fell in love with it immediately. The themes presented are just as prescient today. And I’ve had a major crush on Angela Bassett ever since.

I love this film--it's the best film based on William Gibson's early works yet (even those he's not credited anywhere, it's obvious Cameron had read his stories, given the similarities in the tech, dialogue, terminology and neon-soaked streets).
@delta-9969
@delta-9969 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, simstim (sensory recordings) is all through the sprawl trilogy. And there's recurring Gibson jargon like SQUID - superconducting quantum interference detector. But Cameron took that one single element that is almost a throwaway in the sprawl books and just thought it through socially, economically, etc.
