hahaha yeah...... its usually a bummer once we get into the water. for some reason these depot sites are always in an area with water like 3 feet down. maybe it was because they needed viable wells to get water for the steam trains back in the day..... it always smells awful too!

I just found your channel and enjoy watching your digs. My forbears came from ND and SD. Some family members went to Yankton College in the early 60s. Your digs let me imagine a little about what life might have been like for my grands and great-grands living in a sod house on the SD prairie. Amazing to me that back in the 1880s to 1910s they had goods available to them from both the east and west coasts, manufacturing centers in the Midwest, and even Europe. Wish I could do a dig with you. Would love to see something from around Bismarck, Moffitt or New Leipzig ND areas.

well maybe we will have to head out that way! we have dug a lot of the best stuff in our area and now we've been spreading out. we spend about half of our time digging last summer around minot, and im sure at some point we will make it that way. and if you wanted to contact us, you could follow us on facebook. there are links in the description or you can just go on there and type in "below the plains" ..we have met up with our viewers before and dug places that had, or had them come and watch. i cant promise anything but if we are ever in your area, i wouldnt mind at all. so if you want, you can reach out. Sometimes it takes me awhile to get back to people on there bc we get a lot of messages, but if you message me and mention your message above, then maybe we can figure something out this year. thanks for watching, glad you found the channel!

Can you grow undigested seeds? I know tomato plants would often grow along railroad tracks when waste was dumped from them.
@BelowthePlains
@BelowthePlains Жыл бұрын
I have actually been told that a tomato plant popped up in a yard about a year after we left. i didnt verify it myself, but the guy had no reason to lie... i doubt he even knew there were seeds in the pit. so i do think that its possible. but i would guess it would have to depend on a few factors, like depth, moisture and temp over the years. if the factors all add up, i wouldnt be surprised if a seed was viable after +100 years.... gonna have to try it out for myself sometime
