If the friends that one gathers around are any proof of what one is worth, then Elvis Costello is "one hell of a man", YOU BETCHA.

When George is drunk as can be he's passed out, which he is for about 1 out of every 3 scheduled shows. This is about a 2 on a 1 to 10 scale of how drunk George performs. And still, the best male county voice ever.

This is an early song by Costello. A former computer programmer from London thoroughly absorbed American musical genres, including classic country. On his own, he is the single most important figure to emerge from rock's late-Seventies New Wave. George, of course, was a legend. And Costello's song fits him like a glove.

If you listen to the studio version of this, Elvis had mumps when he recorded it and it worked wonderfully. Great song

Song was on My Aim Is True, Costello's first album. Jones had never heard of him. According to Rich Kienzle's biography of George, Elvis arrived at the recording session, and he and the musicians waited for George, and waited. Jones was tracked down, and told in no uncertain terms how unprofessional it was to blow off a session, etc. He finally showed up, apologized, and the track was laid down in about an hour. Elvis, a hot-tempered bloke himself, was gracious throughout. Costello studied and admired all different kinds of music, including country-and-western.

It actually never ended up on the album. The record company didn't want it on the album cause they thought it would've been career suicide to include a country western song on the record, so it was left off and later showed up on the Taking Liberties b-sides, alternate takes and rarities compilation.

He's alive and well - married to Canadian jazz icon Diana Krall. There's a lovely you tube clip of Diana, Willie Nelson, and Elvis covering "Crazy". Willie's sidekick Mickey Raphael provides he haunting harmonica drifts.

zerro7 Costello had the mumps for this performance. At 1:02 Jones is pantomiming looking for his house keys in reference to the lyrics sung by Costello. What are you doing?
