I think the creature can create its own mini-portals. That's how it got behind Will in the shed and why the lights flicker when it's around.

While the "Demogorgon" can definitely create it's own small tears in realty as evidenced by it tearing through the wall in the house,I'm not convinced that it was what took Will. First off we've never seen it use telekinesis,but the thing that took Will used it to unlock the door. Secondly it's way of tearing through realities is usually slow and loud but it silently appeared behind Will. Thirdly The "Demogorgon" mostly acts like a wild animal,while the thing that took Will seemed to act more intelligent. Lastly the "Demogorgon" typically kills it's victims as soon as it gets them to The Upside Down,But somehow Will,a small child,was able to escape unharmed and not get recaptured despite being completely unable to avoid it in the normal word. Just seems to me like Will was taken for a purpose,and was left alive while his captor made preparations for him to fulfill that purpose. Then again maybe they just left his escape off screen because it would be too difficult to show Will believably escape the "Demogorgon".

You both are overlooking the most obvious answer. Will was about to get eaten/snatched. He saw the hole, and crawled through it to escape, then it chased him. Having a small window of distance, he ran and hide in the house he knew better than the monster. He wasn't bleeding, so it couldn't find him. He saw the tiny portal through the legs of the creature, crawled through to run, and hid. The Demogorgon chased him, failed to find him, and then kept hunting as normal. that's how Will escaped, and how the Demogorgon couldn't find him. He used the portal it created to escape.

@@dcks2 I dont know, ask the show writers. I've never played D&D v1, and have no idea what the demogorgon should and shouldn't be able to do. Keep in mind its possible that the references to D&D were just references, its not like the creature came FROM D&D.

I know it seems crazy for her to crawl into that tree (and it is), but I can just say Nancy was consumed by guilt. Barb was one of her dear friends and she feels responsible for what happened, so she's willing to go to great lengths to personally find her, even if it means getting into dangerous situations. It's reckless, but I guess when you feel the way she did about someone as kind as Barb getting taken by god knows what and thinking it's your fault, you may end up doing reckless things to appease that guilt.

I may be late cause im only watching it now, but yes. You are right. I had a friend of mine for three years in highschool and she was the only one who was there for me. When i made friends with those mean girls, i started to treat her like sh!t cause of the pressure. I didnt know any better, and i was the horrible version of myself that time. I began to bully her slowly and one day she just dropped out of school. I saw her mom one time on the streets and she talked to me in a kind manner, told me i should visit their house sometimes. I felt guilt crawling into me, like i was gonna puke infront of her. Then our family moved out and i never got the chance to see her and her family again. I tried searching her on social media but nothing. I know she is still mad at me and i wish i could turn back time. She is the sweetest and kindest soul ever, and so is her mom. Everyday i pray for their safety and hope she is doing well. I am a mother now, and i cannot imagine other young girls treating my daughter that way. I regret what ive done but the damage has already been inflicted. To my old friend, I wish u nothing but the best. I am so sorry for what I've done. You didnt deserve that kind of treatment, no one does. I wish i could see you again , and hope that you could forgive me. I am still haunted by the wrong things that I did to you and to others. I cannot ever forgive myself, nor move on peacefully knowing I hurt you so much. I miss you and your mom. ❤️

During the making of this season, the official name for the other dimension was The Nether. But after it was released, the fans latched onto The Upside Down so hard that the crew basically had no choice but to follow. Nancy going into the tree is the one place for me that this season's writing falls flat. It so obviously only happens because the writers needed her to get to the Upside Down somehow, even if it took her doing something no halfway intelligent person would ever do.

Great Reaction! The episodes start to go by in a FLASH! Each one I watched I thought I was in an altered dimension because I swear the episodes were shorter than normal but nope, the duffer brothers know how to move a story along. I loved stuff like that too and playing D+D with my friends but I was also athletic. The gate she found was 1 of some other gates like the barrier separating our world from the upside-down is thin in some places. Just advice to anyone out there, if you find an animal that has been preyed upon and is still alive; I *know* we would love to help, but clear that area *now* . If it's still alive you might have spooked the predator enough to hide to check you out, but it is still there. So, calmly step away and leave, stay alert, do not turn your back to them, *do not run* as that only makes predators instinctually want to chase and hunt you too.

Lonnie and Joyce Byers have a drink together, and h tries to convince her to get convince her to get counseling following the death of their son.
