I remember D&D was brand new when I was in high school at this same time era. There were many people who did think it was a gateway to hell. Also for the 70's in southern California Eddies price for weed was very cool and generous. The casual bullying was also accurate.

At first I thought Chrissy was pregnant, but I'm now positive that she had an eating disorder. It makes more sense with everything that she experiences in her visions: her mom telling her that she took her dress out so that she can fit into it, the table full of rotten food, her dad with his eyes and mouth sewn shut (ie. he "didn't see" what was going on with her and didn't say anything about it), etc. Also, if you think *this* episode is a 10/10, just wait until you see the rest of the season... IMO episode 1 is by far the weakest episode of season 4, but I also think season 4 is by far the best season of the show, so that doesn't mean that episode 1 isn't good.

Chrissy was making herself throw up because she’s fat shamed by her mom.

Chrissy wasn't pregnant or sick, she was bulimic. In the bathroom, her mother's voice mentions loosening a dress for her, then threatens to "gut you like the fat pig that you are". Later, when she sees her mother sewing, she's again altering her clothes to account for increased weight. Whether these things ever actually happened, or whether it was just what she imagined her mother was thinking is debatable, but it's clear that that's how Chrissy thought her mother saw her, or maybe how she saw herself.

OMG, that’s the cringe moments for me. I hated the finale of season 3 just for that reason. And I cannot tolerate the Joyce and Murray duo either, but I did like this season a lot. That cheesy shit makes me want to throw up. It’s beyond annoying.

Lacey is right about the Special K - it is Ketamine and a strong tranquilizer. It is sometimes used with humans too. When I worked in an ED, we had to use it with a patient to transport him to a mental health facility (he had profound autism and freaked out easily over transportation) but because of us using that medication on him, we had to use a critical care ambulance to transport and a PA had to go with him.

Great reaction. This was an incredible start to the season. That last scene with Chrissy reminded me of Nightmare on Elm Street especially when she's on the ceiling.

This is the only episode of the season where you could say there is some "filler", but the editing and camera work and the way they brush through the story made it worthwhile throughout. And there hasn't been a moment in the entire series that freaked me out and caught me off guard to the degree that Chrissy's death scene did.

no stranger things for years mostly due to covid: yah that's why 15yo priah ferguson played 11yo erica :p I'd be fired on the first day because the papers would be through the windows, on the roof, under the cars... 😅😂 jane is what her mom named her, and it's a beautiful name, and I really like it too ED (eating disorder) obviously, and that barbie limb-bending at the end, poor Chrissy :( angela must be really unhappy/miserable in her personal life to be like that... but agreed otherwise and well said, now on to the the next one!
