@@Cassxowary I’m sure plenty of people would, but many people won’t anymore. I don’t remember where this happened, and trying to find it only brings up some random dude slapping a kid that isn’t his, but there was a story about a little girl that was alone and crying in a store and a guy walked past her as quickly as he could. A woman asked him why he didn’t stop to help or see what was wrong and he said he didn’t want to be accused of being a pedophile. There have been multiple stories of women being attacked, physically and sexually, and no one, especially men, doing nothing to try to help because they no longer want to get involved and possibly be falsely accused for one thing or another. There was a woman being raped on a Philadelphia subway last year, in front of a bunch of other passengers, and not a single person tried to help her. Hell they didn’t even call the police right away. With the way the world works today, here in the US anyway, you get falsely accused of all kinds of stupid shit no matter it is you’re actually doing, especially if you’re a guy. Hell touching a woman on the shoulder or even simply saying “hello” to a woman on the street is being called “sexual assault” by a certain group of halfwits. Personally, I don’t think no longer stopping to help people is the right way to go about it though.

Steve was definitely right and I agree that the other killings Eleven has done were all self defense, people chasing her. But our Eleven has her own moral compass thank goodness and she does what is right! Even if I personally thing that dude is scum for what he was doing to El's mom and to 008. I mean the excuse "he said she was sick" really doesn't hold up because how does that explain the look on his face as he is tasering 008 when they show her memories? Also I think 008 really does care a lot for Eleven its just that she grew up angry and she thought El needed to cope the way she does, though she now knows that's wrong. Hopefully it changes her outlook on what she is doing herself.
@RandomPerson-qz9di5 жыл бұрын
I disagree on the matter that 8 doesn't care about El because 8 really did help El to harness the anger that she was feeling and use that anger to better use her powers without this episode of everything that happened in it El would not have been able to close the gate and despite 8 trying to convince her to kill the guy she still didn't because she knew it was wrong and that she would be no better then him by killing him revenge only makes you as bad as the person you are taking revenge on and El realised that.😁

A lot of people have spoken about this episode being a diversion from the main plot and not quite getting it. Here's the thing a lot of folks don't realize yet that is changing about shows: streaming is making series more like novels. And filmmakers are doing this very cognizantly. On regular television episodes have to be much more self-contained and most often can't stray from the main story, because viewers watch week-to-week. With streaming, where viewers can choose their pace, allows episodes to be more like chapters. In other words just parts of a whole that don't necessarily have to be a self-contained story of its own, can be tangential to the main plot (as in this episode of Stranger Things) as it won't take two weeks to get back to it, and to where the story can dictate the length of the episode instead of a time-slot dictating the story (some viewers were thrown off by an episode of Mindhunter that was only 30 minutes compared to the other hour long episodes). I think this is inevitably a very good thing. It will allow a lot more freedom in the ways stories are told, and it will allow more to be dictated by creative choices as opposed to by format. Audiences are simply still adjusting to it because they're not used to it.

Every time I watch this episode I always forget that up until that moment of Eleven seeing Hopper and Mike at the hospital, Eleven had no idea that the Upside down is still an issue in Hawkins. Hopper never told El anything while they were living together lol. But anyways, if Eleven did know about Hawkin's problems she may have never set off to find her mom and then her mom would've never told her to find Eight. As tough as Eight was on Eleven I still think that she was right in the fact that Eleven did have a lot of pain and hate she needed to learn how to cope with. So in the end, I think that Eleven learned from Eight that she wanted to cope with the pain of her childhood by helping people and maybe in season three Eleven can teach that to Eight.

It's a bit of a stretch but I see 11's nosebleeds as a callback to 80's horror films. Just a byproduct of having the brain in overdrive. Like in King''s Dead Zone and Firestarter and Cronenberg's Scanners, to name a few.
@scottfelger5036 жыл бұрын
I know it diverted from the main story and that it was kind of slow, but as others have said, the purpose was 1) to give some background into Eight and 2) Eight taught Eleven to improve her power. Not to give too much away, but Eleven will need that improvement near the end ;-)

I love the last sentence so much. "I'm going home". Most of the people over hear it or don't think about it but their is so much meaning in it. So many people(sister from her mother or 008) said to her:"now you're home" and her answer was always "home?". She didn't know where she belong to. But the one who said it first -mike- (and she didn't said her usual answer) was her actual home. By Mike and her friends. And now she knows and is sure about it

I always find it interesting how people say they hate 8 for what she’s doing, but how many movies and tv shows have we seen that are built on people on revenge missions? Isn’t Kill Bill 1 & 2 essentially the same thing and it’s some of Tarantino’s most popular films? And the “corrupting”? I don’t think 8 was essentially trying to corrupt El, but was showing her how she deals with her trauma and how she thought she could help El do the same. Only thing is 8 is older and therefore must remember more of the torture phase of their captivity. I’m not sure how well most would handle being kidnapped and tortured that they judge her so harshly. If we followed her story from the beginning, we’d be her cheerleaders, not her judge and jury
@juanpraetoru38436 жыл бұрын
As a note to the other commentaries about what this chapter was about, it is also about where "home" is. First she tries with Mama, then Eight, and finally she gets to realize that Mike, the other children and Hopper are their real family, no matter how bad times could have been alongside them. Sorry for the mistakes, I´m not a native english speaker.

The point of this episode is that throughout this season El has been searching for that place where she belongs, she's been searching for her home. First Hopper, then her aunty, and finally 008 all suggest she is home when she finds them. It's not until she's been on this journey, however, that she comes to recognize that her place of belonging, her home, truly is back in Hawkins with Hopper and Mike and all of her friends. She even says as much at the very end of the episode. As angry and frustrated as El was when she left Hawkins, as much anonymity and freedom in that anonymity as she may have found in the city, this journey gave her reason to go back and face the Shadow Monster, she's going to save the people that she has now come to understand are her family....and that, my friends, is a beautiful thing.

Very few people appreciate how AWESOME El's aunt is. She has this kid who comes to her house unnannounced, talks about crazy shit like powers and all. And yet she welcomes her with open arms, offers her a HOME, offers to take care of her and all. And when El wants to do things and try to find "her sister", she even helps her! And when she's worried about her or what, she doesn't call just the cops or stuff like that, she calls Hopper! (also I love Khali, Khali deserves better than the life she got, her loneliness and the shit she got from the fandom... she's not "a villain", she's a badass who, tbh, has every right to want revenge. She could have done pretty horrific things to these policemen, but she didn't. Also Khali literally helped El channel her powers, she didn't "destroy" her)

I wonder if she is recovering any now? We didn't see Eleven able to heal her, and yet El could listen to what Terry was telling her in her thoughts. So maybe Terry could start coming out of her shell? I don't know; we don't have enough to go on there yet.

And Eleven's makeover -- She's growing up here, starting to be her own person. The 80's punk look really suits the time and suits Eleven. (Think of Blade Runner, Mad Max, and Lost Boys.) Not many people seem to like this episode, but it does have a purpose in the arc of the season and it also takes place at the same time as the last episode does. That is why El wasn't in 'The Spy.'

This episode improves a lot if you consider it as just a prologue for Season 3, where this whole gang is clearly going to be a lot more important and will hopefully get more depth. Plus, it's always great to see Pruitt Taylor-Vince.

I think we’ll definitely see 8 again. But what I want to know is do you guys think Brenner/Papa is alive like the guy said he was or was he just bsing?

I told you guys in other comments on other videos that since I am the same age as you are, Punky Brewster was my first love. So I popped as much as Nikki when that footage showed up, but what in the world would a seemingly childless man in his late fifties be watching Punky Brewster for?

Wow that tan! Sandra Dee 11 goes all Sandy 11 :-O I liked this, some 11 character building. I think we'll definitely see 8 and her group of merry men again, on the wrong side of things.

This ep doesn't fit with the flow of the story, yet we needed Eleven's char and skill development. The next two eps carry right on from ep 6 and they really run with it. You won't be disappointed. I still could swear Max was in the same van, with Kali et al., at the start of 2.01. I need to rewatch to see. Eleven gets sort o tempted by the Dark Side of the Force here, only not quite. She ultimately makes a decision. Note Kali still protects her, they disagree, but this is left open. Eeven's skills developed here are needed upcoming. Also, Eleven makes a decision based on mercy and compassion, even when it wasn't shown to her. Kali is more willing to cross that line out of anger, and out of being older when they experimented on her. Dunno if we'll see anything more of Kali's crew, though. Word is, Kali may be back in s3. Eleven gets to be a badass in this nd the last two eps, again, and we see Kali (Eight) is a different sort o strong female char, more ambiguous. The capping scenes at the start and end also give us a little to work with. Note Eleven sees remotely that her friends are in trouble, and this influences her decisions. Note also, we don't get a single time in Stranger Things where they use any of the "helpless / delicate girl / woman" tropes you usually get in thriller / horror or mystery. Instead, we get the ladies being smart and strong. Nothing wrong with being a girly-girl, but hey, a girl or a woman who can take care of herself and dish it out is a good thing. (My dad specifically liked the challenge that my mom was strong-minded and smart, not a pushover. It made for a better partnership that way. My parents were really good in many ways, even if not perfect in others.) So it's refreshing to see the girls and women in this show on a more equal footing with the boys and men.

I guess I’ll be the only one who will point it out but … that guy is this episode that eleven and her sister & the gang tried attacking , he’s the same actor who played Otis from season 2 of the walking dead

9:17 Nikki's reaction was just about mine too. I popped (to put it in wrestling terms) just as big myself because I was born in November 1980 so Punky was my very first crush.
