The British built them in the 1930s to house the Indian office clerks and their families who lived in Somaliland when it was a British Protectorate. We also used the Indian Rupee for while until it was replaced by the Shilling.

Spices similar in Somalia and India 1. Cumin 2. Coriander 3. Chilies 4. Cloves 5. Cardamon 6. Ginger/Garlic 7. Cinnamon 8. Tamarind Paste Chapati is same and Chai Tea is same. Only difference we also cook Camel meat and drink Camel milk. They went above and beyond for you as guest. Hospitality is known in Somali people.
