The custard is the color of strawberry jello pie. I used to make it for my grandmother and also a family friend because they were both diabetic any time they came to visit because you can make the pie in any flavor of jello and you can make it diabetic by using sugar free premade graham crackers crusts (Keebler makes one) sugar free jello, and sugar free cool whip. It’s super simple: 1 package jello (any flavor in regular or sugar free), 1/2 cup boiling water, 1/2 cup cold water, 1/2 cup ice (I used crushed), 1 premade graham cracker crust (regular or sugar free), 16 ounce tub of thawed cool whip (regular or zero sugar). Mix boiling water and jello until dissolved, add cold water and ice and mix until all ice is melted and jello begins to thicken, refrigerate for 30-45 minutes until cooled completely, don’t allow the jello to set. Once jello has cooled, fold in cool whip a little at a time until there is no more liquid jello mixture. Mound into premade crust, cover loosely and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Serve. This can be made in advance or 4 hours before serving. I have made it in lemon, cherry, peach, strawberry, lime, grape, and berry blue, but any flavor of jello will work and all the flavors I have tried were yummy!

Red Hots make me think of Christmas. My hometown does a little Christmas thing every year that we started going to because my choir sang there when I was a kid. They let you put red hots in your apple cider. My favorite place is always the little blacksmithing shed. They give out hand-crafted nails to people every year as sovoniers. I always have to get one. You get to watch them work and ask them questions and you can also buy some of the things they make. And it's nice and warm in there. We also always do the horse-drawn carriage ride, and we've had lots of fun on those.

oh my gosh Emmy I got so excited about this video!! My sweet late grandmother used to use red hots instead of sugar to make rice pudding with leftover white rice! It is a family favorite to this day, and I still make it when i’m missing her. For years, my family has used these candies to make a "Christmas Drink." Put half-gallon of apple juice in a pot. Add 0.5-1 cup of Red Hots, depending on your taste. Bring to a simmer slowly and simmer until candies are dissolved. Taste, and if your apple juice as really tart, add sugar to taste. Serve hot or some like it cold over ice. It is also a great drink when you are sick or have a sore throat.

I would probably Iike this pie without the pasta and with apples instead of pears. My grandmother from North Central North Carolina always used cinnamon spiced red apple slices to garnish our plates, so I grew up loving those flavors together. My grandmother probably would've loved this pie. I remember loving red hot hearts and atomkc fireball candy as a child. When I was 5/6 years old, in the early 1960s, I was allowed to have a running (up to $2 a month) credit account at the gas station/country store across the road from our house, I'd buy Red Hot Atomic Fireballs and I'd put a big atomic fireball in a glass full of hot water and wait for it to dissolve so I could have what I thought was a yummy spicy drink. $2 a month doesn't sound like much money but at the time the rent on our 3 bedroom house was $50 a month and most candy was just a penny or 2, a big candy bar was 5 cents. A coke or pepsi was 10 cents in a bottle. The drugstore in town sold 7 cent fountain sodas and 10 cent chili dogs. You could get a squirt of cherry syrup and or chocolate in your 7 cent cola drink for free.

I love cinnamon, cinnamon candies and Fire Balls. Also, War Heads and other sour candies. You can also use cinnamon candies as the coating for candy apples.

If your whipped cream is hot and you don't have time to refrigerate it, you can always use a tablespoon of ice cream emulsifier! It's simply amazing!!!!

Red Hots are popular at Christmas too. We used these on Corn Flake Christmas Wreaths and on our Christmas Cookies.

“40 minutes until the pasta is tender” that pasta is not tender. That pasta is mush.

perhaps! consider though that it was cooked in a syrup, so the osmotic pressure is much lower and it takes way longer for the same doneness 🙂

@@artcoughlin8403 Yeah that's what I was thinking too, I know from winemaking that tea doesn't steep the same in syrup as it does in water...
@anakelly765122 жыл бұрын
@@artcoughlin8403 Regular pasta is cooked in boiling water. You can't crank up the heat to 'boiling' for that syrup. It'll burn to a crisp.

@@anakelly76512 regular pasta is cooked also in nearly boiling water, just as this kind of pasta are in the soup when you re-heat it :D. you don't need to crank up the heat to cook pasta, in fact try this next time : cook them in "used to be boiling" water, removed from the heat. it will work exactly the same and you'll save 5mn amount of gaz/heat for any pasta cooking session.

I used to add red hots to apple pie. Sprinkle 1/2 cup or so over the pie before you put the top crust on. Yummy!

Red Hots weren't popular in my area around Valentine's Day, but around autumn they were perfect for putting into apple cider.

I made a Jalapeno Fruit Cocktail Pie With a Granola Crust Recipe 1. Make a lousy granola underwhelming granola using old fashioned oats, trail mix, pumpkin seeds and I think they were shortbread cookies but I don't remember for sure and cap n crunch blue ocean artificially flavored maple syrup with honey 2. combine those fruit cocktail cups with jalapenos and sugar to make a sorta jelly thing maybe 3. make lousy granola into a terrible pie crust 7? Add sugar, and vegetable oil because you don't want to waste delicious butter on a terrible pie crust 4. make jalapeno fruit cocktail jelly sorta thing into a pie filling because why not? 5. Bake, let cook and then set in fridge 6. Consider your own fragile mortality for a moment and then eat. It actually doesn't taste bad. Mostly sweet but you get a little bit of the jalapenos in the after taste. Which isn't bad. What is bad is the texture. It's gooey with stringy bits from the fruit and jalapenos and the crust is somehow both soggy and rock solid. I wouldn't recommend. But I do think Jalapenos are a good addition to pies if the pie is not otherwise a terrible pie which mine unfortunately was.

A tip my grandma taught me for whipped cream was always to pop the bowl and the beaters into the freezer for just a few minutes before you whip the cream. Helps it set up faster 😊

My first experience with red hots candy was when I was little. I was at a party at someone’s house my parents knew, and there was a huge bowl of them in the bathroom for whatever reason. I had never heard of this candy, so I gave it a try. Luckily the faucet was right there

Cinnamon candy jello mold was a thing in the 50s and 60s. I think it had strawberry jello and cream in it. Some type of canned fruit as well...pears or pineapple. My Mom made it for pot lucks.

So the curious thing about the word 'lentil' is that it came to describe a lot of things' shapes. Like tablets, some sweets, lentil shaped rocks for gardening and home decor... but what's interesting is that it's the same word they used for glass shaped in this way and the genitive for lentil in Latin is 'lens', which is where we get the word from.
