Back wrapping 3 month old Kaeli in a gauze Japanese traditional wrap called a Heko Obi. Many variations of the strap carry explored, including using a 'blanket' (Indonesian Selendang) to create a quick podaegi. Highlights include a major spit up in my hair and on my back, and a 2 year old being rather distracting. Plus, a special audio effect called "The AC unit is on, and Leslie doesn't talk very loud". Muffly voice! Yay!

Thank you for this share! I love all the magical places baby puke manages to show up in my house as well, and enjoyed seeing your fantastic toddler doing what toddlers do :) Enjoy your littles!

This just made my week! The podaegi "cheat" is brilliant! I might have to show this technique to new moms I work with who want to make their own carriers but want a no-sew variety.

This is a traditional carry. Please educate yourself. The babywearing tips and tricks and "rules" that you are familiar with originate with the European "German Style Woven" cultural sets. Babywearing 102, and Babywearing Love and Advice are two great groups to get good discussion about carriers and more people can chime in about traditional carries. TheBabyWearer site is also a great resource. Look up "Japanese obi" for more info. Strap carries are safe and have been used for ages.

I believe mine is only 20 inches wide, though it could be narrower without interfering with the usage. You should probably go with 30 inches and then hem down to around 28ish for the main wrap, and then use the rest for the Heko Obi.

About how wide is a heko obi? Would it be possible to get both a german-width wrap and a heko obi out of 45" gauze?

That's really neat! Out of curiosity what would yo say is the upper weight/ age limit on that type of carry? I love trying new carries, but have a 2 year old, do you think it would work for him?

WingedPhantom Strap carry is great for toddlers! Go for it! If you search "strap carry" on KZbin, you'll find videos of people wearing lots of big toddlers in strap carry. Great choice for a quick up, and the coolest for summertime.

This is a traditional Japanese carry. It is not meant to resemble German style wrapping. Thank you for the share, but your comment is based in misunderstanding, and ethnocentricity.
