I've been to Strasburg probably 50 or more times since I was a Child. I miss going there as I've moved out of State. Hope to return soon.

I so enjoyed the documentary, thank you!!....Visited and rode the Strasburg Railroad last year 2017 with my dear friend from Finland and we had one of the best and most enjoyable times of our lives....The beautiful and peaceful Amish countryside adds so much charm to your journey, when you step back in time riding the Strasburg Railroad....We loved it !!! ~Marianne...

I rode the Strasburg Railroad in 2011 and had an awesome time! And little did I know (at the time) that I was riding on the oldest operating railroad in the U.S.! #89 pulled the train.

15:23-18:55 the way these men talk about these engines you can feel their passion for railroading. It’s something that’s been forgotten excluding organizations similar to this around the world. The feeling the emotion the “soul” is something that needs be preserved also.

Nice documentary. Between about 4:50 and 6:50, it shows a PRR A3-class 0-4-0, a tiny, diamond stack 2-4-0 and one or two ex-PRR 4-4-0's, besides the William Penn (which ended up on the West Coast later).. Were those all Strasburg RR locomotives? Has anyone ever compiled a complete pre-preservation locomotive roster for the Strasburg?
@seaboard186 жыл бұрын
They're probably just some stock images they had on hand and put in for some reason(?)
@heihei34533 жыл бұрын
That PRR 4-4-0 is no. 1223 and did run for a limited time on the Strasburg back in the late 80s on loan (I believe) from the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. She is currently preserved next door at the museum.

My point was #4 was used in the past on the Strasburg and regardless of anyone's view point regarding its steam capabilities, it would've been nice to see in action. I'm sure there is film footage somewhere of the old Reading Camelback.

Did Amtrak ever build the depot at the end of the line where its passengers could detrain and transfer to the Strasburg? We were there on a Friday morning in September, 2004. Hurricane Ivan arrived that night and the only things we could see beside the Penn Turnpike the next day above the water were the George Bush for President yard signs. So much for being a blue state.

If you don't like 31 with all the problems why dont you just overhaul her?
@jay600katana6 жыл бұрын
Overhaul's don't fix hunting motion or a rough ride. Not having a pilot or trailing truck makes 31 is prone to these conditions because of her wheel arrangement.
