Dick Dale and Hank Marvin, same guitar but very different people. Every interview Iv'e ever seen of dick, he's telling us what a Legend he is.... Hank Marvin on the other hand seems to be one of the most modest people you could ever hope to meet despite being the inspiration and hero of people like Mark Knoppfler, Eric Clapton, Dave Gilmour and the list goes on...

I saw Dick Dale more than a dozen times since 1998...and turned a number of friends and young people onto his music. He used that Strat beautifully; NO ONE played like he did! I got his autograph on a guitar strap right after his last appearance in Denver in 2018. He passed in March of 2019.

In my honest opinion, Fender Stratocasters are definitely the number one electric guitars in the whole world and they are the greatest. To me, Fender Stratocasters have always been the Fender company's greatest hits and almost a whole lot of musicians were able to break through with those Fender Strats. I play music and I am a soon to be a musician. I play various Fender/Squier Stratocasters at home and I love them all. Meanwhile, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame has recently said that when somebody picks up and plays a Fender Stratocaster, it enhances the personality of the person playing it and are more recognizably themselves than other people who are playing some of the other well known guitars. Basically, Fender Stratocasters are the greatest and everybody out there that plays a guitar should pick up one. They are also a hands down, no nonsense and without a doubt the number one electric guitar that everybody should pick up and play. If Eric Clapton, Dick Dale, Hank Marvin, Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, Buddy Guy, John Mayer, Mark Knopfler and many among others can play on a Fender Stratocaster as well as make them cry or sing by playing lead guitar on them, then we all can do that too for those of us who are guitar players. There are no questions asked because the Fender Stratocasters are the greatest and the best, period. Point blank.

What a lovely bit! Good, old 4:3 and I bet VHS- I love these old takes and certainly the Stratocaster! My first ever Guitar was a real Strat- I sold it and now that I know what I had it just breaks my heart, I never recovered. Now I have some fakes, I always wanted a three tone sunburst but the one I like best is at least a good fake, made in Asia maybe in the nineties. It is weird, the neck looks nice but the coating don´t let my hand slide the way I´d like it to. But the frets and nut fit good, it holds tune and the intonation is spot on. I play light gauge flatwounds (Pyramid Strings made in Germany- they´re AWSOME) on a floating bridge with unknown pickups thru a Korg ToneWorks and a Boss MG-10 with a self made cabinet (JBL bass speaker). It´s not loud but gives me the sound I like, that feels good.

+Calebe Priester While it may not be about competition, friendly competition has been a contributor to some amazing music. Think Beck, Page, Clapton, Hendrix back in the day. Van Halen, Rhoads. When you listen to a dude that's badass, you're like yeah, that's amazing, I want to do something that good. Those guys pushed each other to be the best that they could be. That's a kind of competition that leads to innovation. Competition is not a dirty word.
@CalebePriester
@CalebePriester 8 жыл бұрын
eddardmulligan All those people that you have mentioned are rockers. Why don't you try to listen different styles of music? I know, Rock, Metal must be your favorite kind of music but check it out different styles. I did read Led Zeppelin's biography and Page screwed-up his friendship with Beck because of their silly competition. Every musician is different. You reap what you sow. If you practice a lot your instrument and study really hard you'll be a talented musician. However you'll not be the best, there is no "the best", this is ego's stuff, just play the music that comes from your heart and it'll be beautiful. Is Jimmy Page a better musician than an unknown indian musician? Hell no, they just have different styles and approach to music

ha ha. Salieri and Mozart. Toots and the Maytals/ the Wailers. Come off it. You are the one taking this personally. Whatever, brother. Page, Beck, and Clapton are friends to this day. It's not ego. All those dudes played from the heart. Did drugs get in the way of some friendships? Sure. They've reconciled since then. And I never said any one of those guys was better than the other. Don't take a different point of view as a personal attack.

It's true... Dick was the father of loud and in the late 50's/early 60's went to see Leo Fender at the Fender factory, also to the JBL speaker factory to encourage them to make much more powerful sound systems. Hi there, here's a bit of information if you need it! The guitars in your local shop are likely to be "Tribute" G&L" models. The genuine USA handmade models are still made in Fullerton California and are naturally rather expensive. However in 2003 G&L introduced the Tribute series to the US market as a more affordable alternative to USA built products. G&L has this facility in Indonesia, apparently using USA pickups regards - David & Debra Rixon, producers of the Stratocaster Legend DVD

Leo Fender and Dick Dale had a Father-Son relationship. There was some real affection going. Because if Fender told Dale "Beat it to death" he knew that Dale would indeed beat it to death, he was his acid test. If the gear Fender came up with could survive Dick Dale, it was the confirmation that it was ready for mass production. In a way it was similar to Jim Marshall and Pete Townshend. Because when Pete Townshend came into Marshall's office with the request for an amplifier which would "Shut the audience up!" he was amazingly inspired "So you want LOUD, no problem, I'm completely on your side here!"

@kineticfuzz, First, let me say that I agree with you about Dick Dale's acheivements. He was without a doubt a pioneer of the electric guitar sound - and I love a lot of his stuff. On his personality, I of course do not know him (and I imagine yoy don't either), but from the many interviews I have seen featuring him, he very often comes across as someone who is quick to sing his own praises. Being proud is one thing, being boastfull is another. There is a clear distinction.

Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch assumed that James Burton would play the most expensive Fender- the Stratocaster. However, James played its big sister- the Telecaster. Had they known this at the time a Telecaster might have been bought instead of the Strat and as Hank has said- his whole approach to playing would have been very different- and they would have evolved another sound- which would still have been great. At one point James Burton did have a Strat neck on his Telecaster and eventually had a three pick up model devised by Fender but he has always been a Telecaster man with very minor forays into other instruments.

I'd love to watch them build a guitar from scratch in that factory, I bet it smells lovely in there. How come the wood never warps?

The wood is kiln dried . It can still warp if moisture levels are not kept controlled . Once the wood is sealed or painted it's going to take severe exposure to moisture to warp it . It happens . Sadly.

@maltavmalta but I do know him he is a close friend of mine and can tell you for a fact that he is a very proud person of himself and his son jimmy but is very appreciative of what he has in the music industry and humbled from his experiences with cancer. like I said what he says is strictly a source of pride and is not spoken with boastfulness in his mind so there is no need to make it look like he has ego problems when you personally don't know what he is like
