A Jag just has that percussive sound you can’t get anywhere else. A Strat has that chime you can’t get anywhere else.

Exactly what I think too-“percussive” is the perfect word for it. It’s such a cool sound and it cuts through so well when recording too.

When the neck pickup comparison was done the Jaguar was in the rhythm circuit mode which introduces a filter cap to the tone of the neck pickup. So perhaps not the best side-by-side .

@gnoogie Жыл бұрын
@@Luckyrider1958 I guess it depends on what the OP means by "middle position". To me, all that means is that the toggle switch is in the middle, which exists on every guitar. Idk why you're playing this semantic word game, unless you were genuinely confused about what I or the OP meant. Yes I understand its an in-between sound rather than directly on a pickup. No, I never said it was a "direct comparison". Idk why you put "direct comparison" in quotes as if I ever said that lmao.
@Luckyrider1958 Жыл бұрын
@@gnoogie Accuracy matters in a comparative analysis. "Middle position" on a Jag is BOTH pu's at once... on a STRAT it's only the middle ONE by itself . Not the same at all. Nuff Said.
@JoshChristiane7 ай бұрын
The Jag is warmer, but its transient response seems to be a lot faster, so you get this very compressed yet "snappy" pop off the fretboard with every note. Very punchy on every note, but yet darker/warmer to compensate so that it's not too harsh sounding. Whereas the tone of the Strat is a little "looser" but has that resonance and heavenly aspect. I love both.

It all depends on what pickups are installed. It's kind of impossible to compare guitars unless they have identical pickups and strings. Even two Strats will sound different.

Curious. I was recently interested in getting a Jaguar, but after watching a few comparison videos with strats, I've realized I don't really love the change in sound. Maybe in the future for studio recording, but it doesn't look like a guitar I would play frequently. Thanks a lot for this video :)

Jaguar for me. Strats are great but every man and his dog has one, if you include superstrats, very few songs in the last 70 yrs didn't have a Strat in there somewhere! Jags are mysterious, championed by those on the outside. I see Strats as the cool kids : while easy on the eyes and ears, none seem to be offering up much new, and some can be a little vacuous. Not all! Just some... Jags are more the loner types, those deep & meaningful types on the outer..but with perhaps a bit more to offer, once you get to learn what makes them tick. And besides..they've always been cooler than the 'cool kids', anyway, am I right..?

I’m most definitely an indie or alternative player but surprisingly love my Strat. Television made good use of them. U2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Used to think they’d make me sound like every other John Mayer wannabe but the playability and variety with pedals sold me. Plus the Jaguar I want. Marr version is $1500 out of my price range.

To do a NECK pu demo on a JAG... the RHYTYM switch should be DOWN... the forward most lower of the 3 switches UP.. the OTHER two DOWN. The Upper rhythm circuit is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the NECK PU itself in NORMAL use. it DISCONNECTS all other switches /tone controls BELOW the strings.... This guitar is SIMPLE. Don't know why so many cannot get it right. 1> the Upper RHYTHM Circuit kills ALL controls below strings. it has a DIFFERENNT capacitor , it's OWN Volume and Tone Controls.. and has it's OWN SOUND. 2> NECK PU.... FIRST (forward most) of the 3 switches.. UP is ON.. Down is OFF. Lower Volume and Tone work here. 3> Bridge PU..MIDDLE of the 3 switches. UP is ON.. Down is OFF. Lower Volume and Tone work here. 4> Rear most switch.. TONE STRANGLE Control... this switch when UP(on) CUTS the lower frequencies (strangles them) Lower Volume and tone work here... That's it. Simple

Yep. It’s kind of silly to compare those 2. I personally feel like where the Strat shines best is on the edge of breakup. That sweet spot in between clean & crunch. Nothing sounds better than a Strat right there to my ears.
@boxerfencer Жыл бұрын
@@Prossdog a dirty Strat sound is best just with the neck position, as with the SRV sound. Cleanwise, I think there's nothing better than position 2 and 4, for everything from country picking to funk, not to mention the clean dire straits sound. As with most players, Ive never found a use for the neck PU in a Strat, and can see how the neck position on a Tele beats it hands down, although I've never played a Tele, but then again I'd prefer a PAF neck position PU for a dirty sound.

I’ve always thought the Strat sounded too bright. I’ve never been attracted to the sound of any guitarist who uses a Strat either, and that includes Clapton. They just don’t do it for my ears. All of my favorite guitarists have turned out to be using Gibson, Jackson, Kramer, and Ibanez, or pretty much anything beside Fender style Strats. I’ve always attributed my disdain for Strats as having to do with me not being a big fan of classic 70’s rock, and more a fan of 80’s metal. It’s like the Strat sound had been overused by the early 80’s, despite many great guitarists continuing to bank on it for radio hits. The same continues today, Strats still are used for pop hits-I just am not a fan of light and breezy stuff, which I feel is the sound of the Strat (at least with single coil pickups).

For my jazzmaster the trem wont allow any lighter than .10s. With the shorter scale length but same trem, do you have to have pretty thick strings on a jag?
@EJleon962 жыл бұрын
On the stock bridge you can’t go less than 10s however if you swap the bridge for a staytrem or mastery you can go as low as you want. I had 9.5s on mine but went back to 10s cause it sounded too plunky and a little thin with overdrive. The tone is a lot thicker with 10s.
