Hey Dave - great choice of teams. Only things missing here are the high winds & monsoon downpours that happened in the real game when a tropical storm was swirling away in the gulf & dumped buckets upon buckets of rain on the west coast of Florida. Rainwater cascading down steps at the Big Sombrero looked like waterfalls & there was so much water on the field that the players were hydroplaning. And this was a grass field, not Astroturf. I remember Joe Theismann kvetching about the horrible conditions.

I replayed the 1962 NFL-AFL seasons in honor of Alex Karras after he passed away in 2012. I split the season series with the Packers and took the Detroit Lions to the first ever Super Bowl...in 1962! We met the Boston Patriots in the big game and Alex and his Lions became World Champs! It was great fun and the Detroit defense was one of the best. I also used the player pic option for just about EVERY player and it really added to the game.

Hey, Dave. Glad to see you’re trying it out. You gotta play around with it a little. When running the ball, you can choose which side to run to, so u gotta be familiar with the lineman ratings. Also, when playing defense, you can click on specific LB and move them into specific zones to either pass or run blitz, or to cover specific flat zones, etc. Sometimes you can contain a run even if you call pass as long as a LB is in a specific spot in the field. You can get a lot more detailed in your strategies if you so choose. Al does a great job in his Strat football videos if you need some tips on how to get the most out of this game.

Was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me? Can u play head to head on separate PCs? Can you view your offensive players card images while you're selecting the ypur play? Or does the game just show you the 1 column of the player involved to determine the outcome after the play?

@@jssoul it’s been quite a while since I’ve played Strat football on PC; but, since Strat tends to NOT change their games, just add to them; I may be able to answer your questions Yes, you can play head to head in separate PC. Each computer has its own IP address. That’s all you need to join head to head. But, I think you still need to have the game on both PCs. Back in the day, you could download it onto one PC, transfer the copyright, but use the disk in the other computer at the same time. With digital downloads, I don’t think you can do that anymore.

@@jssoul I do not believe you can view the O player card, like in baseball. But, you can click on the player icon to view the card before you select your play. I used to play with cards in hand.

The main differences in SOM and some other games, is the card with a image of their performance gives the computer game team players some personality. Plus the open SOM game engine. The other games are ok, to each their own, but the results are from a hidden source and the player's just seem like a stat line with ratings.

It's more fun and realistic if you slow down the animation a little bit. I also enjoy playing in the expert mode. It's almost like being a real NFL coach. You can also add team colors and 'helmets/uniforms' to players on the field to make the game even more cool!

I know the card images are an added cost but they add another dimension to the game. Even if you want to play more casually, half the fun is watching the dice roll around while waiting to see if you hit a Long Gain or an Interception, or if you picked up the 4 yards on a crucial 3rd and 4 or you were stuffed. You will also see the results that way before the animation or text which will make it easier to call (hint: It would be great to hear you announce a play-by-play football game, and the Bucs/Skins from '81 would be awesome!)

I don't think we should have to pay that much of an added cost or any cost at all but like you I want the images and honestly will never buy a game without them. I am lucky that a friend, Joe, who played Strat PC before convinced me to. Good to have smart friends.

Game I have been looking at for a bit now. If I get it I will get the images for sure. I want to see the cards for a game. As for what was seen here I like the play calling interface. It looks nice. Also like the way the scoreboard is lit up. Now you mentioned the game is tough for announcing at times but remember that the majority of players are not doing that. Honestly these first looks at times by various people don't tell the whole story as they are being shown from the perspective of a KZbinr's use. People got to watch more than one video to really know all about a game. I think people do that anyway but just mentioning it in case someone comes across the video. Also yeah I would not want to play this in cards and dice. Just too many cards and too much going on in a single football play. Anyway thanks for the showing of the game and enjoy. Go Pats!

One other thing about SOM is the old phrase "Any given Sunday" is true. Yeah, a team like the 2007 Patriots will be great. However; the super great teams that go 16-0, 15-1, 14-2, and etc., may reach those standards or play more like a 13 to 11 win team. The same can be said for the extremely weak teams can sometimes surprise.

My issue is 1st and ten and actipon pc is thee game is based on ratings which is ok but I want to see the playbooks,, zone/mantoman/ pro form/4 wr and so on. does this game have team profiles? would 85 bears run 46 d?
