Stratovarius are hailed as one of the most influential and successful Melodic Metal bands in the world and they have managed to establish themselves as one of metal scene's heavy names.
The new album "Nemesis" unites all the best traits of the band's melodic, powerful, fresh and technically elaborated metal, all spiced up with an incredible sense of melody.
The album was produced and mixed by Matias Kupiainen and mastered by Mika Jussila (Finnvox studios) who has a long history with the band.
"Nemesis" has a dark and more modern sound compared to the band's last album "Elysium". It clearly shows how much the band has matured and grown as songwriters. At the same time, the band focused all their attention and work into creating and recording "Nemesis". Singer Timo Kotipelto has spent three weeks recording the vocals in a cottage in the Finnish countryside.
Matias Kupiainen adds: "I have more or less lived in the studio for four months, obsessing over every detail. I feel very relieved that we are done and I am very happy with the material and the sound."
Timo Kotipelto agrees: "Making the album this time was easier because we gave it as much time as it needed. We have worked our asses off to make this and we hope the fans will like it."
Without doubt, the fans will love it! The album has it all. From the typical melodic and powerful Stratovarius sound in "Abandon", to the aggressive and energetic "Stand My Ground", the album represents the new style of the band mixed with good old melodic power metal.
Stratovarius´ musical approach is today wider and richer than ever. The song "Fantasy" sounds almost ABBA-esque with its catchy pop tune, but it´s powered by the famous Stratovarius metal sound, louder than ever.
"Out Of The Fog" integrates some folk music elements, with lyrics telling the story of a young person forced to march blindly into battle.
The only ballad on the album, "If The Story Is Over", is a very emotional song with a grand arrangement that builds up to using the full band and ends with a small female choir.
The title track "Nemesis" is a typical Stratovarius song, with echoes of medieval melodies with powerful double bass drumming and the catchy pop melodies from this side of the millennium.
Says Timo Kotipelto: "The title track of the album; with its modern twist on the myth of Nemesis, it tells a story of a preacher who gives each one what they deserve, good or bad. The song has a very nice riff, cool melodies and a great good old Stratovarius style chorus."

Im a new stratovarius fan. I cant believe i haven't discovered them until recently. I know they have had a lot of line up changes but man i love this band. Matias is a beast in the guitar and i love the fact that u can actually hear the thundering bass guitar in all their songs. Awesome band and timo's voice is amazing.

I'm not a die hard Stratovarius fan, I own a couple of albums (Episode, Visions, Destiny), but I have to say that this is probably the best Stratovarius song I've ever heard. Why are some people disliking this song? Because of the "solo?" Because of the influences from electronical music? C'mon, the song is fresh and still as Stratovarius as it gets. i also thought of that too at first, but when i dug deep into the lyrics I realized that the girl in teh video makes perfect sense, but her actions we can see that she is the personification of someone who no matter how hard she tries she can't hit her goals, because something comes up and blocks her way, that's why she acts hopeless and she sings/shouts the song, until then she is waiting for her halcyon days (period of calm and peace)

Concuerdo que la producción es impecable y me gusta mucho la partitura de la canción. Estar a la vanguardia es un reto y cuando sacaron esta canción los sonidos electrónicos estaban muy vigentes, una apuesta muy interesante y arriesgada de parte de ellos. I'ts not a style change, it's a (sub) genre change. If both (new and old songs) are of the same quality but different genre, one is free to like some and dislike others. For example i dislike very much this electro influence, it's just a matter of tastes. On the other hand i love songs from elysium and eterna. This is the cd that I've been waiting forever for Stratovarius to release! Their last few cd's weren't near the brilliance that this band is capable of. I actually heard something about all the Stratovarius stuff in the video being collected from the real fans... then there actually IS the story behind it. As for the meaning... going through the everyday routine, seeming nothing but a teen, bored and boring, she has the music raging in her head and is singing along fiercely, feeling wild and powerful... but in her mind only. The others can only see a heap of fangirl's stuff, while this obsession means much more to her. IMHO.

hay que explorar y evolucionar, strato no se puede quedar pegado en el episode, destiny, visions o infinite. Lo único que hará será vagar bajo la sombra de esos discos que son unas verdaderas obras de arte. Excelente la evolución, johansson tomando mas protagonismo y con muy buenos músicos e interpretes, en vivo tienen una calidad de ejecución muy buena ! los nuevos discos exploran nuevos sonidos y agregan algo de progresivo a los temas. Una de las pocas bandas que ha sabido reinventarse para bien ! aguante Stratovarius.

el elements parte 2 fue un disco de transición, si bien tiene algunos temas como i walk to my own song o know the difference y algunas otras por ahí que si pegan, aunque fueron las menos, fue un "mal disco" comparándolo con lo demás, a pesar que soy fanático y los escucho todos xD ya que todos tratan de entregar un mensaje mucho mas profundo que la propia música. Aprecio tanto el trabajo de timo tolkki al que considero un tremendo compositor, como el trabajo de los nuevos integrantes los que le dieron un nuevo aire y un cambio necesario. Como dices johansson y kotipelto son los protagonistas en esta era, está muy bien, johansson sin duda el mejor tecladista dentro del estilo y kotipelto que se mantiene muy bien con el pasar de los años sumandose al talento y limpieza de kupianen, quedó muy bien ensamblado el nuevo stratovarius ;D con el némesis eso si llegaron a un pic explotando el nuevo estilo, así que yo por lo menos como fanático espero un nuevo cambio para el siguiente disco... simplemente veremos que nos prepara para el futuro esta "máquina indestructible" como lo dijeron en una presentación en una radio española.
