I GREATLY enjoyed watching your video moments ago. It brings back such fond memories. I grew up in that part of the world in the late 1950's to 1966's. My father, Ray Rasmussen, loved to fish the Strawberry Lakes and Slide Lake. My brother, Floyd, and I made many a trip into those lakes ... especially Slide Lake. We would walk in before daybreak by flashlight; fish the day; and hike back down to Strawberry Campground ... usually getting there after dark. We ALWAYS had pink meat trout to take home with us. You could catch 17 - 18 inch trout if all went well back in those days. One of the most thrilling things that happened in hiking into Slide Lake was seeing the HUGE mule deer bucks at daybreak. There were Boone and Crocket racks on those big boys I declare! (Now you're lucky if you can see a scrawny doe). Didn't have mountain goats up there back then so that's wonderful they can now be seen. So many precious childhood memories were made in that part of Oregon. I thank God a million times over for having the chance to grow up there ... especially after living out in Michigan here for nearly 40 years. NOTHING here compares with beautiful Grant County, Oregon! Thanks again for taking the time to film what you filmed. You did an awesome job! You made a homesick lad very happy this evening. (Norm Rasmussen).

Wow! Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to have helped spark some memories. I grew up in Western Oregon, but got to visit out east quite a bit. I have many fond childhood memories from there myself.

Reliving past trips and greatly enjoyed this video. In the past I would camp overnight at the lower bridge, and daylike that loop while pushing my springers. Often watching wildlife and daydreaming what changed in 100, 200 500 years. Yea the down hill can tax the quads if fitness is a factor. Fall season is by far best, as early summer late spring bring more wearther than want. And snowshoe winter is slow, but still enjoyable if enjoy that style. haha sub zero and claims of heat waves at 10F lol.

Just did this trip! would not recommend going in late July. Mosquitos were very bad at every point, even at the highest points. The sun was hot with all the exposure and sadly it was very smokey due to Falls Fire approaching the area. Would recommend doing this trail, looking forward to trying this trail in the later season. Its very hard (lots of climbing) but good fun.

Thanks for sharing your experience, can definitely be a tough one to time. I had to cancel my first attempt to go there due to nearby forest fires many years back.

Thanks, this is an interesting and informative series!. However, there were no close shots of Little Strawberry Lake and one cannot tell how far the campsites are from the lake???
@PacificNorthwestTrailGuide6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I see what you mean, sorry about that! It actually varies a little bit. The first group of campsites shown are set back more from the lake, probably 2 or 3 hundred feet. Then after you cross the little creek flowing out from the lake, those few sites after that are closer, more like 100 feet back from the lake, you can see the lake from the campsites over the buses there, i just didn't catch it well in the video. Also, the one site I show at the end is kind of a secluded one that is on a little hill farther from the lake.
