Before you talk a cat or dog for your own it's very important to go around the neighborhood and make sure they indeed are "strays". many times a cat might not have a collar for the simple reason the owner does not want the cat collar to get tangled up in a bush and cause harm to their cat.

That's awesome and a wild story, so happy to hear that destiny took it's course. I had to call over the wife to hear the part of the vet check/an hour/papers and good to go. We were in China in the spring, wanted to bring home a stray dog (to Canada), we were told it would take months (vaccines, then a waiting period to see if the vaccines were successful, papers, flight, etc), on top of those months, it would cost thousands of dollars by the time it was done. Nothing to do with the vets, services there are amazing and about 95% cheaper than here in Canada (robbery in this country). We didn't end up doing it, but we got all her shots, dewormed, tics removed and put her with a friend in a temple. He built her a home, she roams freely during the day to interact with visitors and is living a happy life now 🙂

​@@mariag.8242Two thing about traditional pet keeping in the Caribbean - Pets often roam during the day and come home for their dinner. My sister's cats do this. We rarely microchip pets. Because after all, your pets will come home to you. Besides, the service isn't always available. So it possible they catnapped someone's pet. The fact that the cat looked comparatively healthy and was so well socialised to people, willing to snuggle, etc. also suggests they might have taken home a pet, not a stray.

true. the cat of a friend of mine went missing in Tulum (no collar, no chip because she was 5 months old and she just went out of the house and came back after half an hour...) We searched for her for weeks with posters etcetera, even in the jungle - no cat, no dead body of a cat either... hopefully one day we will find a video like that, so my friend knows after all that she is alright...
