Stray Dog Wanders Into Gorilla Habitat At SD Zoo Safari Park

A stray dog was rescued Sunday after it wandered into the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in northern San Diego County, San Diego Humane Society and zoo officials said.

The main troop (Winston family) was in the back bedrooms behind the tan wall. The gorillas that were out in the enclosure were Franklin (Frank 13) and Monroe (10) part of the Winston family, a bachelor troop. Both are still considered "black backs". Even though Frank is still a boy he is 400lbs (his dad Paul Donn 450+lbs) and if he wanted to catch the dog he would have. I've followed Frank since he was born, and knowing his personality he just wanted to chase the dog out of the enclosure mostly. Looking at the video there are periods where both Frank and the dog stop and stare at each other. If Frank wanted to catch the dog he would have. Gorillas are very peaceful and gentle animals! They are vegetarian. If this was a chimpanzee enclosure then that dog would have been in trouble, chimpanzees are way more dangerous.

I agree but a child it was not the child's fault the stupid parents got the beautiful animal killed but in a instant the gorilla might or might not kill the child they were not going to risk it I don't blame them I feel horrible about that but children do come first

Yea, not fair at all, if ya ask me. No dumb child should be the cause of a wild animals death. That’s the animals domain, not ours. If ya can’t honor that then leave the animals in the wild and out of the zoo. If that brat fell off a cliff or into a raging waterfall, he’d be brutally killed but i don’t see anyone destroying those things. No difference. Or just leave it up to the parents to go in and defend their precious child if it means so much. How dare they put an innocent animal in that position all in the name of our entertainment.

Children don’t come first to me. They’re just people and people are the biggest problem in our galaxy. We have no more right to live than any other life. It’s only due to it being “ours” and the fact that we have the ability to kill from a safe distance with a single finger, that ‘s used as an excuse. I could instantly come up with 5 different ways to rescue a kid without killing anything. Or hey, how many times do we get to see things fall into zoo exhibits before someone fixes the damned thing?! It’s obviously NOT SECURE or SAFE! Like, who tf designed these exhibits? THAT’s the people who’s fault it is. And speaking of gorillas, where’s Kamala harris been hiding lately? Anybody seen…him?

You can see on the video that it is a pretty good distance down into the enclosure, easier to jump down into something than to propel yourself up 20 feet or more.

@@JS-zf1ub absolutely. I just don’t see why there’s not an uncrossable barrier for people too, since this seems to happen over and over. Like who are we protecting? Not the people because small children are able to breach. Not the animal because if someone falls in, we’ll just shoot it.
