I think you would enjoy their 3 performances on The First Take. It’s a Japanese project and it’s just them, the music track, and microphones. No extras. You can just focus on their singing. The cool thing is, it’s all done in one take, so they only get one shot at it…and they n ail it each time.

I was thinking the same thing! I love their first take performances ☺️

A lot of shows that k-pop artist preform on have a back track or doubling. I don't think they have a say...it's the shows producing to make sure nothing goes wrong cause it's live.

they are singing over a track of themselves however i think the reason why it stands out more in this song is because if you listen to the studio version there are multiple layers of vocals as well, they did that more obviously on purpose to mimic the atmosphere of the studio version

If you want to hear just their raw vocals you should react to the one take -series where stray kids have done a few songs on

I will be forever grateful to Seo Changbin for writing this masterpiece as this song got me obsessed with straykids. As already suggested in some of the comments, please react to their First Take performances namely Slump, Oh and Scars. Raw and live vocals in just one take. No room for mistakes and you will really be at awe at their visuals and vocals.

Please react to Stray kids "SCARS" on THE FIRST TAKE. where you can hear their live vocals.

Thank you Topher for your honest reaction. I love song and the lyrics are what catches me the most about the song. They executed the vocals and rap really well not over doing it for the type of song. I believe this is an OST song for some drama but not 100% sure. This is the only time you see them sing this song is in this live performance.

I know someone already told you about how kpop shows make them sing over their own voices, but the mixing even on the original studio version is kinda weird. I still love the song though! It's worth it to note that this was done for an OST, and was not produced or written by SKZ themselves- except Changbin wrote the lyrics- so that's why it doesn't have that Stray Kids feel. It's a really nice showcase of their voices 🥺

(yeaaahhhh tbh I've always had mixed feelings about this performance...the backing vocals are so overpowering and it's such a shame, cuz they really don't need it lol.) but yes Stray Kids has SO many lovely softer songs, and you'd never know it if you didn't look into their bsides! it almost feels like they're saying "if you can't love us at our 'God's Menu', you don't deserve us at our '24-25'." XD if you want to explore more of their gentler songs, "Secret Secret", "The View" and "Mixtape: OH" are fantastic. "Sorry, I Love You" hits especially hard if you're queer, cuz the lyrics take on a whole extra layer (or it does for me as a lesbian anyway lol). they also have an older title track called "Levanter" that's a LOT more lyrical than their usual "noisy" sound haha...and it has a heartbreakingly BEAUTIFUL english version too. ...now that I think about it, pretty much ALL of their soft/introspective songs hit different when you're queer lmao. the biggest theme in their older stuff is "finding your true self" (hello Levanter!), and almost all of the romance/breakup songs in their newer stuff are gender-neutral. I love it. (and Chan is 100% a supporter, so it wouldn't surprise me if he does that on purpose.) ;)

YES! "Sorry I love you" really hit me in the feels too. Also a lesbian here (hi!), and that's what got me into SKZ, the way I never feel uncomfy about their songs. I can really resonate & find myself within their lyrics.

I agree with the other comments wholeheartedly. The backing tracks are ridiculous. These men do not need the help. Like you said, it just doesn't feel right. Seungmin, Lee Know, Han, I.N. and Bangchan (I know I just listed most of their names. It's like that sometimes. Lol) were hitting those high notes perfectly fine all on their own. I just think the show and it's crew need to trust their artists a little. That said... These guys are so diverse that you kind of gotta remind yourself not to put them in a box sound wise, or at least I do, lol. With them, always expect the unexpected. Their discography consists of over 30 genres... I think that speaks volumes. As for recommendations, I agree with the others there, too. You have good taste, and so does The First Take. Not only did they pick Stray Kids to be their very first K-pop group to perform on their stage. They were also the first to be invited back a second time. Oh yeah, and the first to perform a song in Korean. (The show is Japanese, so all the songs performed, up until "OH" that is, are in Japanese as well.) I definitely recommend all three. Specially if you love their headvoice. :) My advice is to start with "SLUMP" first. Hopefully, that's the correct title. I always get TOP and SLUMP mixed up. They are the intro and outro for an anime called Tower of God. Then, of course, "OH" is the track they performed in Korean. This track happens to be special to STAY. The music video served as the surprise reveal slash announcement of Hyunjin's return. (That hiatus was complete BS) Plus, it's absolutely beautiful. Last but certainly not least, there's "Scars"... I believe this was the first track they actually wrote in Japanese. (As opposed to it being written in Korean and then translating it over later.) This may not be a popular opinion, but I say the First Take version is the way to go until you have seen the majority of their discography. Just because the music video has a lot more to offer that way. Of course, that's completely up to the individual. Anyway, I think you will enjoy them all quite a bit. No matter what you choose to do, though. I just hope you are enjoying your trip down the rabbit hole! Xoxo!

Thank you for the reaction 😉. I think most of the comments ask you to react to stray kids The First Take series 😬 so I also want to suggest that one too✌️

Others have explained the backing track thing that's essentially a requirement in Korean performance shows. However, there's also different layered parts in the track that really are meant to be complementary, not just support -- there's some vocal harmonies and whatnot that are intended as part of the legitimate musical accompaniment.
