Can I paint this with oils?

Here’s my question. Acrylic has been so dismissed by so many artists especially those who paint with oils. However now all these oil painters are painting in gouache. Why gouache instead of acrylic. Is it just because of the stigma the art world has attached to acrylic but gouache seems more ‘real art”. ??

I'm an oil painter and I can't give you an authoritative answer by any means, but I definitely think that's the reason, as bad as that may be. I think gouache gets a pass because it's technically watercolor and watercolor is considered a "legit" painting medium.

For myself, it’s because gouache is easy to clean out of my brushes, even when it dries out. I hate the mess of oil paint and acrylic paint, especially when traveling, but I get bored with watercolor alone, so I use gouache. It has definite limitations like small format size and drying out too fast, but these are also bonuses when painting Plein air. I honestly believe I enjoy the maddening challenge of fighting with this medium out in the elements.
